The Industry

Well Lately Ive seen some posts regarding New CDS and the declining sales and how these shows that an artist is over and all that. Well I work in music retail and get to see all day the CRAP that people buy and will buy, and heres the deal, the Industry never learns, it always JAMPACKS all their releases and throws them out in Late October-November and prays that the XMAS shoppers will find it. This is a dumb philosphy and thats why albums always fall through the cracks and the ones that usually do are the better ones. Secondly SALES do not dictate the worth of an album, i thought we all knew that. So PINKs new cd falling into the 40's doesnt mean a thing, her last CD had a very slow build
but the sales usually stayed steady. To sum up the problem with the industry just look at most of the Grammy nominees this year. I mean come on, first of all They have to Nominate people that they think KIDS will tune in to see, but what they dont realize is that KIDS dont really give a shit about award shows, so stop focusing on RATINGS for an award show, The GRAMMYs always got shitty ratings and most awards shows do. People want to see PERFORMANCES not bad stand up routines and jokes, thats why last years GRAMMYS were halfway decent, 22 performances and more than half were good. And yes I do believe every genre should get a performance on the show, but it should be the best in that genre SO NO ASHANTI AND NO NELLY this year, there are alot of other RB females and alot of REAL rap artists to feature.
Well some people will say BECAUSE IM older now I pick on the YOUNG artists of today. NOT TRUE. Do something good and I will give it props, STRIPPED christina Aguilera, great CD. Another thing I hear is this COMPLAINT that "when I by a CD I only get 1 or 2 good songs", if anyone saw BILL MAHER a few months ago he did a GREAT rant on these people who say that and basically showed all the CRAPPY vinyl albums he bought when he was younger that he saved his allowance for months for. So TOUGH SHIT, buy it or dont.
I mean people just need to realise that times are different but in the end times used to be better and music used to be better, and artists used to be better, and now those things are worse. We live in a world of reality TV shows that are all SCRIPTED and people think they are real, we live in a world where people buy music because of image and wont buy music because of looks. People very rarely get into an artist anymore, they want what everyone else is buying they wanna be DOWN, people dont want be Leaders anymore, they wanna follow the crowd and thats why Record companies are the way they are. This how we Got the POP movement, this how we got the whole RAP ROCK craze, this is how we got the JAGGED EDGE, 112, NEXT, rb guy group craze, this is why every RAP video is a guy a bunch of girls and a party, thats how that craze got started. But like all things this will crash and burn, hopefully soon.
And last but not least PLEASE STOP quoting SOUNDSCAN figures, first of all these are not accurate, they do not track Internet SALES, things like CD NOW or AMAZON or CD UNIVERSE are not tracked, nor are those 1800 info mercials fo cds, and really who cares. I mean big deal that BRITNEY sold 600,000 plus one week and 260,000 week two, and of course everyone is saying SHES OVER she only sold a million in 12 days, oh please people, OVER has nothing to do with sales and nothing to do with people watch. I think BRITNEY will say shes OVER when she feels like it, just like any other artist, I mean there are artists that have never sold a million of any album does that mean they are OVER, The JAYAWKS for instance, are they OVER, together recording since 1986 have never had a GOLD record, if u ask them they dont think they are OVER. So basically buy what U wanna buy, watch what U wanna watch, be real and dont support the crowd!
