Madonna's "Runaway Lover" I've got this song on right now...who do you think it's about? I go back and forth between Sean Penn and Dennis Rodman...any thoughts? Let the rain come down...17 days....

I like this song. There's not much to it, but it's fun and not so overly pretentious like some of the American Life tracks.

I think the 'Music' CD has only two weak tracks,"Runaway Lover" and "Amazing".These two songs are filler and that's probably why they didn't make it onto her 'Drowned World' tour setlist.Surprisingly, these songs were produced by William Orbit! I guess after 'Ray Of Light' he kinda lost his touch?
If Madonna had replaced these two songs with two stronger tunes, the 'Music' CD would have been a classic. It's still a great album though. [This message was edited Thu Dec 4 0:41:56 PST 2003 by DavidEye]

But his (musical) relationship had come to end with MUSIC. Mirwais was a good choice as a producer for that album.

She often switches producers between albums to give her a fresh sound (at least in the '90s onwards), but she didn't here. And look what happened.

well, i didn't think AMERICAN LIFE was a disappointment. i don't own a copy of it, just listened to it a few times at a friend's house, so i didn't a look at the credits. but there are quite a few gems on it. but like i said, i don't know who actually produced those special songs (Love Profusion, X-Static Process are some favs of mine). she did work with other producers on AL besides Mirwais, right?

Agreed. At an early stage,'American Life' was supposed to feature,in addition to Mirwais, other producers like Dr. Dre and Air (a French techno duo). But I guess Madonna felt comfortable with Mirwais and decided to let him produce the entire album.I love the CD,but I can't help but wonder how it could have sounded if a few other producers were involved.

I apparently, am the only person who likes this song. It is my favorite off the Music album. She performed it at Roseland Ballroom back in November 2000, it was amazing to see live. I don't think I have yet encountered anyone who loves it as much as I do.

I think this is a great song but it was on the wrong album--it would have fit better on Erotica... Let the rain come down...17 days....

"Amazing" sounds like a ROL reject, or "Beautiful Stranger Part II." http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

I would love to see something like this. Remember when American Life was rumored to be an album that rocked hard with Madonna playing lead guitar? I still would love to see something like this and the remixes on this EP are the closest we've gotten. And they're still danceable. This would be a great next step. Or an album co-produced with Missy. Either is cool with me.

That would be interesting.I'd love for her to work with Dallas Austin again.Back in 1994,when he produced songs for the 'Bedtime Story' CD,he was mostly into R&B.But he has since ventured into rock and roll territory (he produced Pink's "Just Like A Pill" and TLC's "Unpretty",two rock-oriented songs).Madonna likes and respects him alot (her latest remix EP includes a song recorded with him back in 94),so I can definitely see the two of them working together again.

Nah, no need for a repeat. Give me Missy.

Madonna has always been more of a peformance artist than a singer or musician. Her albums and videos were only good because she had good taste and hired people to do most all the work for her. That's not a knock against her, but a compliment. She knew her limitations and still managed to be involved in some fun music because she hired talented people.

I'd like that too. Although we all know that she would more likely search for someone new and unknown to produce her, as she has done in the past.

She's working with Pat Leonard and Joe Henry 4 an upcoming 'musical' project.
I think Amazing and Runaway Lover r unfairly critisized 'cause they r not in the same 'ethereal/spiritual' vein like the other Ciccone Orbit Ray of Light stuff. Especially 'Amazing' which is very akin 2 Beautiful Stranger but a great throwback 2 her bubblegum era. ...Your coochie gonna swell up and fall apart...

I agree. It's like a cross between "Beautiful Stranger" and "Swim" but better than either.

Madonna does NOT hire people to do "most of the work for her".Unlike many other "puppet divas",Madonna is fully in control of her music, her videos, her entire image. These days, she writes the majority of her own lyrics, and she composes melodies. And she even creates many of the concepts for her own videos.Yes,she has help, but it's absurd to suggest that she just sits back and lets others do all the work for her.
