"My Milkshake Brings all the Boys to Yard"

As "triflin'" as I think this song is, I can't get it out of my head. I have friends that would be totally shocked that I like this song, but I just can't help it. Anyone else out there addicted to this song by Kelis?
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

Well I love that song. There's something about that song that makes you remember it the moment you hear it. I always stop what I'm doing when I hear that song and I saw the video yesterday. It's tight. I hope Kelis becomes a big star with this song and I hope the album is just as good as the song.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

It's a catchy pop tune and I hate that she's jumping on that bandwagon. It makes me long for the days of "Out There".

I love it. I got it on promo ages ago and it sounds awesome at a loud volume on a good stereo.

It does not, however, sound so good the little portable radio at our office. Not a radio tune.

I must admit, I thought she was singing "My milkshake brings on the voice of the Gods".

I created a thread a while ago about this song. I said that the music sorta resembles Prince's Lovesexy drum machine sounds. Seems like everyone's ripping off the brother these days.

I really dig Kelis' music, but...

Milkshake fell off IMO. I was bumping the promo WAYYY back in June of the year. It's played too much nowadays. Yes, Kelis deserves some props and it's long overdue, but I don't like these bandwagon/fairweather fans who jump all over Kelis when she's hot, but were nowhere to be found when her debut came out, nor did they support "Wanderland." I've been down with Kelis since jumpstreet, but these new bandwagon Kelis fans get on my nerves. I guess that's how it is when you acquire fame and fortune, so I'm not mad at 'er.

I LOVE that song, and the video is tight. I'm happy for Kelis. When I really listened to it, it reminded me of Nasty Girl, only the lyrics are more coy, which is cool!

I also like "Caught Out There" more but it seems like this song is a good way for her to get back on radio (if anything, this song might be a bigger hit). While the song isn't bad, it won't inspire me to pick up the CD.

I think for most people, this might be the first they are hearing of Kelis. I'm pretty sure "Milkshake" has gotten more radio play than even "Caught Out There" (or soon will). Can't blame them for that. Also, most people (myself included) didn't know about "Wonderland" until recently.

- I really like that song she had on her first CD - I forgot the name but the video was cool I think it was called 'Sad Story' or something like that

The song was called "Get Along With You." ("...you took my heartbeat from me, this is the saddest story...")

To all my people that love "Milkshake":

Please go out to the record store and snag her first two albums "Kaleidoscope" and "Wanderland." You will not be disappointed. Hey, I'll even give you reviews of both albums.

Kaleidoscope (1999)

First, let me get this out the way: Kelis is not a male basher. I know many may get that impression once listening to her first single "Caught Out There". Although, that may be the mood on that particular song, it's not on the case for the rest of the album. The album...is hard to explain. As a matter of fact, everything about it is indescribale and uncategorizable (that's what's so good about Kaleidoscope). The Neptunes (Kelis' producers) did an incredible job with the beats. The bass on the album is banged out. Prime examples is the wild-out track "Mars," the Bob Barker influenced "I Want Your Love," the whimisically bizarre "Roller Rink," the cinematic feel of "Get Along With You," the late night romp "Good Stuff" and the head-nod-inspiring "Ghetto Children" (be careful, the beat is so tight on this song that you might break your neck). The album is well worth it for those aforementioned songs, but that's not all. The slower fare on Kaleidoscope is also noteworthy. "Suspended" is a drifty, dreamland track that gives you a stellar sensation. "Wouldn't You Agree" is also very wonderful with its inebriated, to-and-fro melody. Overall, this CD is one of the major breakthroughs to come out of mainstream R&B in a long time. Intricate harmonies and melodic beats makes this a possible contender for album of the year.

Wanderland (2001)

The girl who delivered one of the most interesting hooks in pop music history ("I hate you so much right now") returns in stellar form on her second outing Wanderland. "Young, Fresh 'N New" is definitely what describes the sound and style of the album. Fresh with imaginative subject matter and anew with a leftfield approach of tackling a pop song, Wanderland shines like a revolving diamond: Morphing into one vivid musical fantasy after another.

The sophomore jinx is never a term that dares to frighten this record. Kelis pens a majority of the album's material and displays a surprising array of charisma and vocal growth. Already a household name overseas, the Harlem-bred R&B-er has yet to receive the same love stateside. Though widely remembered for her first single "Caught Out There," she has an arsenal of work that would put her contemporaries to shame.

Conceptually, Wanderland is a dizzyingly fun ride through an alternate universe, one unlike those cluttering the airwaves of urban radio. Equipped with a comprehensive range, Wanderland leads the listener from the heights of sonic pleasure to deepness of the albums two sociopolitical pieces "Little Suzie" and "Mr. UFO Man." Both songs serve as forward-thinking social commentary on the chaotic situation of our millennial world ("What if the holy Trinity was Christians, Muslims, Jews / Yet we bomb each other for coverage on the news") - written surprisingly before the attacks of Sept. 11.

In contrast, the elated erotica of the record is both rich and playful. Kelis takes on many masks, from the Blondie-esque rap narrative of "Daddy" to the pun-filled frolic "Flashback" ("You make me come ... alive"). The dichotomy of sex 'n' religion is one we haven't seen pulled off so well since Prince.

Working first with the Neptunes when they were virtual unknowns back in 1999 on her debut album Kaleidoscope, Kelis continues the artistic camaraderie on Wanderland. The Neptune sound doesn't define Kelis, if anything it complements it: She molds her own unique musical landscape alongside the Neptunes start-stop beats.

The guest appearances on Wanderland are fruitful and noteworthy. Each featured artist adds their own distinct element to the album's already fantastical vibe. Fieldy of Korn provides production on the Eazy-E looped banger "Easy Come, Easy Go." Gwen Stefani and the boys of No Doubt offer backing to Kelis on the euphoric rock track "Perfect Day." This album rolls along with goodie upon goodie, never letting up until its finale.

With Wanderland, Kelis might finally be able to achieve the same level of overseas love on her home turf. And if she doesn't this time, we'll only have ourselves to blame for not getting a ticket on this train.

Also, be sure to pick up her new record "Tasty" in stores next Tuesday, Dec. 9!

That video for MilkShake is fantastic! I can't put my finger on it, maybe its the moody odd lighting, the slightly retro feel, maybe its flashbacks of brass in pocket, i dunno. I can watch it over and over.

'Milkshake' is okay and I probably won't get 'Tasty' but I think that I will get Kaleidoscope. I liked, 'Caught out there' and how Kelis presented herself to the public but after that song faded I never heard anything else from her. I read a review of Wanderland but never heard any songs off of it and pretty soon that faded away, too. I don't think that it was even released in the U.S.A. However, since Milkshake has been such a big hit I've been hearing some more stuff from Kaleidoscope (oddly enough) and I've been really digging it. It's funny how these things happen.

i loved the video to get along with you. it is such a great video. goes perfectly with the song.

i have noticed how the radio has been playing odb's song featuring her a lot again which is good since it is one of my all time favorite songs. i loved that video too. it was sooo funny and kelis looked hot with those other girls. so composed and sophisticated and great hair.

hope she gets her props.
