Do you like holiday music? If so, post your fave songs/LPs I love holiday music. Not necessarily the traditional or popular renditions of Christmas songs, but ones I grew up with or learned to appreciate as an adult. Here are some of mine:
1. A Motown Christmas (LP), Various Artists: This album features most of the Motown greats turning out classic renditions of traditional songs (The Temps' "Rudolph" and "Silent Night", Stevie Wonder's {"Ave Maria" and The Miracles' ("God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"), and also a classic original from Stevie, "What Christmas Means To Me"). It is (IMHO) the best Christmas album one can own. 2. A Charlie Brown Christmas (Soundtrack), Vince Guaraldi Trio: An unbelievably cool and beautiful Christmas album. It also happens to be one of the better jazz albums you'll hear. 3. Jingle Bell Jazz, Various Artists: Features Miles, Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton, Carmen McRae and Herbie Hancock, among others. 4. Crescent City Christmas Card, Wynton Marsalis: Wynton plays some classics with a bayou flair. He does an unbelievable version of "Silent Night" with Kathleen Battle. 5. Christmas With Nat, Ella, Lou & Nancy (LP): Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Lou Rawls and Nancy Wilson sing some traditional tunes and some modern ones. The highlights IMHO are Lou's version of "Have Yourself . . ." and Nancy Wilson's "Christmas Waltz." 6. "What Child Is This?" -- Vanessa Williams, A Very Special Christmas 2: Elegant and jazzy. and of course, it wouldn't be Christmas without . . . 7. "Another Lonely Christmas," Prince & The Revolution. I can think of tons of others, what are your faves? Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

What's the name of that song by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl? It's a holiday song but that doesn't mean they still get to snap at each other. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE. | |
