I can't say was a huge fan. But I CAN say she was a strikingly beautiful woman with a seemingly wonderful demeanor and a very promising career ahead of her. I've never heard a single negative thing about her.

I wish both Aaliyah and her family peace.

touched

I remember going to the wrecka stow to buy Mary J's "Whats The 411-Remix", Tevin's "I'm Ready" and SWV's "Its About Time",,,in the same wrecak stow I saw that "Back & Fourth" video,,,I dug it so much that I even ordered the tape(which was out 4 awhile). I was like is she Muslims? Is she Arabic? I know we black folks use alot of Muslim/Arabic names but not that EXOTIC kinda name. LOL I was laughing when I found out that she's just a sista from Detroit!

But I became a SERIOUS fan after that "One In A Million" boy, that was the FRESHEST RnB/Hip-Hop album in 1996(The Score came as a 2nd).

The beats, the lyrics, the vocals,,,were OUTTA the universe at that time. I knew Missy & Tim when they were down with the Jodici crew,,in fact Missy was in a group she 4med back in 93/94 called "Sista" their CD came out but ended up pluged out.

Tim used to do alot of spitting/DJing in Jodici's albums, Missy used to do alot of rhyming, singing adlips and doing interludes.

But DAYMN I have neva expected that they had this CRAZINESS in their music.

I truely loved "One In A Million",,,so dark, tense, twisted, funky and edgy. The hip-hop scens weren't exactly ready 4 that album.

She will always be missed!

i remember being pissed mad at the NY post journalist who seemed just as pissed that her funeral held up traffic.

Remember that article, Deb? That muthasucka had me heated!

"Its not like she's Princess Diana 4 god's sakes"

Well, to my understanding lol MOST of American haven't shed a tear 4 Diana.

I remember the end of the article:

"after you dail my number:

Press 1 if you agree with me
Press 2 if you wanna throw angry racist comments
Press 3 if you dailed the wrong number lol"

I wanted to call and give him some of my New York-ish sassieness btw lol I honestly did but that woulda been childish!

I had been awake for ony about 10 minutes when I got the phonecall from my daughter's godmother. She was audibly upset...

"Did you hear about Aaliyah?!?" she asked. "Turn on MTV."

I immediately knew what she was going to say, and I felt like crawling back under the covers and just skipping that day altogether.

I had just saw her MTV Diary the night before she died, and I fell in love with her because she seemed so incredibly sweet and so much fun. It was the first time I ever really saw her on a show like that, but I had always enjoyed her music though I didn't have any albums of her's. I planned to go out and buy her Aaliyah album, and then when I woke up the next morning, my cousin IMed me and asked me if I had heard about Aaliyah. I couldn't believe it, and since he was on the computer, I figured it was an Internet rumor or something. He insisted it wasn't, and I put on MTV. Sure enough, it was true. I wasn't even really a big fan, but all I could do was cry because she seemed like such an amazing person.

I feel terrible that I only really became familiar with a lot of her music after her death, but Aaliyah was extremely talented and a great human being and I am a huge fan of her's. She will never be forgotten.

'Just a sista from detroit'...

OMG!
PPl wake up...Blacks are Exotic and full of many different mixtures...70-80% of us...we don't go around just picking names to be different and exotic.

Aaliyah was beautiful and Exotic...she was 'Black' but definitely of mix heritage.

Blacks come from Egypt, we come from all parts of Africa, how exotic can one get.

Muslim and Arabic names are also apart of our cultures...we don't try to be anything but ourselves.
This angers me when ppl try to make us look ordinary when were not!
We are so beautiful and full of different things its truly a blessing.

Just like Beyonce...she's just not a sista from Texas, she's a Sista whose also French!
Her Mother is French and Black.

Aaliyah will be missed!
RIP!

Thats what my mom said-Blacks have everything in them.Like when you mix alot of colors together u get brown. When my dad 1st met my mom he thought she was from India(and ya think he would know hes from there, hehe) but she was just-black,hehe...
Actually it was kind of a funny story-he came up 2 her and tried to speak his language 2 her.She said she was scared. shake
