Remaster Old U2 Albums?

Has anyone heard anything about the older U2 records getting remastered--The Police did it last year so I would love to hear te great ones like WAR, Joshua tree and Unforgettable Fire in a higher-quality sound.

YESSS! Maybe they'll get remastered in conjunction w/ their new album next year? Or perhaps if they get inducted into the RRHOF in '05?

"Boy" or "October" remastered just sounds like a total turn off to me. The best part of these albums, like the old Police albums, is that they are in the rawest form. The last thing I want is a pretty and clean version of these albums.

Hmmm...I would love to hear songs like An Cat Dubh or Rejoice, Threw a Brick in a more defined sound...especially LMJ's drums...yum!

Remastering wouldn't destroy this. In fact, it accentuates the rawness. These discs are in desperate need of re-mastering, since (like many early CDs) they weren't taken from the original masters, but from the vinyl masters. As a result, the recordings are rather flat, and you don't hear all the sounds that are there. When the Police box set came out, all the tracks were remastered. I was shocked to hear that the raw sound was actually MORE apparent, not less. The lack of production becomes even more pronounced, since you hear EVERY LITTLE FLAW that was recorded.

I have the Mobile Fidelity gold disc of War, and its just phenomenal! To top it off, this version was actually struck off of an earlier master, before the album was wittled down to fit a standard LP! As a result, several of the songs have a few, subtle differences from the original release. Nothing major, but a few songs have extra little bits here and there. Kinda like a "director's cut" of the album! Hopefully, if U2 does remaster these discs, they will use this version, since it is (in my opinon) a truer representation of what U2 was trying to accomplish with this album!

It is truly time for these discs to be remastered. They are too important a band to not have the best quality versions of their material on the market.
