Is Nobody Into Missy Elliot This Time Around?

It seems that nobody is talking about Missy and her album came out Tuesday and I posted a Review of the album and nobody seemed to be interesed (except 4 my boi "I"), what is up?

Did anybody buy the album? If you did what do u think? I'll bring back my review and see if anyone has anything to say about it.

I'm more into Missy's music now than I was when she first came upon the scene with her debut album...although I don't own anything by her. I plan to rectify that soon enough. Post the review, I'm interested. smile

She can be a little hit-or-missy (pun intended)...I was absolutely in love with her last two albums, but the albums before that were kinda patchy in my opinion. "Supa Dupa Fly" is a classic more because it brought her on the scene than because she was on the top of her craft (though I know others disagree, which is cool). What I've heard of the new album sounds kinda self-conscious in comparison with her past stuff, and the Missy I love is the woman who can spit out lyrics that leave me laughing and scratching my head...maybe I'm mistaken about the new album, but I'm not feeling what I've been hearing like with the last coupla efforts. And ya know, it happens to the best of 'em...

I feel disappointed by her new album too sad especially as Under Construction was brilliant!

"Self-conscious" more as in aware of oneself, or insecure of oneself?

I really like Missy, but I haven't checked out the new album yet. I'm still loving Under Construction over here.

My sister has "Under Construction" and doesn't even listen to it (one of the reasons I will be cutting down on buying her CDs from now on). I gave the album a listen a few times through and wasn't thrilled by it. The singles were OK but the album was kind of bland in comparison to "So Addictive", which was amazing. That is the reason I'm thinking twice about getting this new one. (or even asking for it).

I love her first album, like her second and third. I copied Under Construction from a friend, but it really annoyed me how she says "This is a Missy... exclusive" at the beginnig of EVERY track. I just couldn't stand it. I didn't bother burning that to cd. That just annoyed the crap out of me.

I love Missy and have been listening to the new album non-stop. I think it's a testament to her talent that so many people dig different albums from her. I say, like Prince, something for everyone.

TRON

I like it. It's pretty tight.

I think what people are responding to is the fact that she's had 3 albums, 3 consecutive years in a row.

And even though the best way to keep evolving it to stay busy, a lot of people have trouble with overkill.

But compared to the changes she made between her first 4 albums, this one doesn't seem quite as radical.

I still like it very much though. biggrin

The skits are better on this one than Under Construction. I hated all that hip-hop sermonizing.

Melissa Elliott is the boom-diggity, she's truely a trend-sitter(musicaly and fashion-wise) and not to mention her spiritual twin Tim Mosley.

I became a fan after I heard a song she did with Aaliyah called "Best Friend" in her debut album.

I love how she's sick, twisted, sarcastic and full of inside jokes,,,PURE hip-hop(she kinda remind me of Slick Rick in her joke sense)!

And not 2 mention the videos,,,oh my lawd lol

I just purcxhasewd her This Is Not A Test in the crazy sales madness yesterday. I havent opened it yet though. I purchased it becaue Pass That Dutch soounds sooulful and like a deep cut jam...not something that is in your face like last years Work It (even though thats a great song). This album seems and feels like a Velvet Rope type of album even though I have yet to...like Erotic by Madonna..one thats deep club-ish like. Its my first one of hers Ive purchased.

I guess so, but I heard her twice the first time, lol.

Does she do that on her latest cd? Cause that totally turned me off to her.

But for real though, one thing that has been buggin me from her releases is that she be using that voice in the background of the songs just like Puff Daddy in the songs he does. Like "Oh yea some exclusive shit" etc...
