My ex-girlfriend had that "Cowgirl" single of hers. She used to play it all the time and drive me nuts with it.

I really expected more, but the mix is intentionally burying his voice behind a wall of other stuff. I felt like every song was a good idea that just got ran through the studio before getting worked into a full song. Andy Taylor's solo effort impressed me more - the songs were full songs and he was mixed in front of everything. And Keith Richards voice was mixed loud so everyone could hear how bad he was singing... which made HIS solo record all the more endearing, um, if you dig guys that sing bad, and, uh, if you do, then CHECK OUT MY SHIT! www.soundclick.com/ultrasound which izzy tape did you get..? i've got the first two and i dig them both... they've got a good classic roots-rock sound to them... at times, sounding very much like a modern day faces... and i've got all of keith's solo records also... i dig me some keef... ... I'm still trying to figure out why The Dismemberment Plan isn't huge. They were a great band and I really do miss them. They said that they broke up because they felt they've done everything they set out to do. But I feel they still have a higher mountain to climb. Where's The Dismemberment Plan's platinum plaques, or #1 albums? See what I mean? NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

They are completely amazing ~ have you seen the videos yet Lammastide? I would add David Sylvian to the list ~ Secrets Of The Beehive is incredibly beautiful and as emotional as it gets. His evolution is quite extraordinary both personally and musically.

Im right there with you NWF. They were the greatest band to come around in a long long time and will be for a while. They are unmatched in the music scene today. Travis is about to put out his solo album sometime soon and has a few songs availible at http://www.travismorrison.com but they just arent the same and The Plan's songs. Something is missing. I weep almost daily for The Dismemberment Plan to come back for good but it just isnt going to happen. "I'm here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubblegum"

Misty in Roots is some of the finest reggae you will ever find. Not too many people look past the Bob Marley, Lee Perry, Bunny Wailer stuff to find better reggae though. It's a shame. "I'm here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubblegum"

Tori Fixx
I'm a believer in him and his music. He's an independent artist from Minneapolis and suprisingly he has a Prince connection. He used to be a DJ for Prince. I fell in love with his music when I heard his 2000 indie debut "The Mochasutra." Since then I've been hooked. I buy or listen to everything that has the man's name on it. He has not disappointed me yet and he speaks to me. Tori is a gifted producer/songwriter/emcee. I love his 1999 recording "Sweet Playa/Not Hiring" -- that is one of the best songs I've ever heard in my life. His remix project "ReFixx" also is a banger. I love his AIDS/HIV awareness anthem "Take Care Of U." He is an asset to the SGL community and I will always support his talent. Go to www.cdbaby.com/torifixx and buy his two albums. Support this independent artist. Other unsung artists include: Billy Lawrence Backroom Matches Alana Davis Amel Larrieux I used to add Kelis to this list, but as you can see the girl has blown up. More power to her. I hope for the day when I can remove all these artists from the "Unsung" list. . [This message was edited Thu Dec 4 20:15:11 PST 2003 by JANFAN4L]

Vanessa Daou as well as The Daou - As a couple, Vanessa and Peter released some pretty hot house tunes like "Surrender Yourself" and "Are You Satisfied?". Then, Vanessa released her solo stuff and had me hooked with the new direction and even more subdued approach to performance. Their work as Milk + Honey is pretty dope as well.
Stina Nordenstam - One of the best Swedish vocalist/songwriter most people have never heard of. That song 'Little Star' on the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack is nothing compared to her other work. Recommended: 'And She Closed Her Eyes' and 'Dynamite'. She has a version of 'Purple Rain' on her 'People Are Strange' covers album. I'm sure you all already knew that. Amber Sunshower - Formerly of Groove Garden, Amber found her stride in songs like "Running Song" and "Walter T." Her work with Tricky on "You Don't Wanna" is wonderfully slinky, cold, and funky. Omar - English fellow. Multi-instrumentalist. His 'For Pleasure' album will have your clothes off in seconds looking for the butter. PARKAY! This Mortal Coil/The Hope Blister - any 4AD, really. The surpergroup stuff makes me wish that more majors would try it. Never happen. Nods to Ephraim Lewis and BillyMac (his vox on 'Pain in Any Language" on the Apollo Four Fourty 'Electraglide' album... [This message was edited Sat Dec 6 11:51:20 PST 2003 by phonzarelli]

When it came to Southern Rock in the 80's you had R.E.M., The B-52's, and Pylon. But you also had some great unsung ones like Guadalcanal Diary and Let's Active. Now I'm just getting into Diary, but I've heard Let's Active's works and they're very underrated. In fact, their first 2 albums have been remastered into a 2-CD set. Check them out.
Also, if you're into late 80's girl group pop, check out Voice of The Beehive. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.
