Old School Joint Of The Day - "Can't Let Her Get Away" - MJ

I've always wanted to create a thread like this! mr.green

I am currently sorting thru some vinyl 2 play 2night and I came across the Dangerous album, this track is arguably one of THE best tracks... what'cha think?

'Tis a good tune. But actually one of the weakest on the album. Which just goes to show what a quality album it is. Even the lesser stuff is great. smile

Pleeze that is the cut! I liked it more than "She Drives Me Wild". Every song on that album i liked.

A personal fav for me was "Keep The Faith" i heard Michael kept crying while singing that song, and he had to do many many takes because of the allegations going on...

I love the Dangerous album. Can't Let Her Get Away is my second favorite cut off the album next to In The Closet.

Yes! Glad to see someone recognizing this jam. It's great, and it keeps up the string of awesome uptempo jams that makes up the first half of Dangerous.

There were no allegations when Dangerous was being recorded, (if you are talking about paedophile allegations). The allegations came far later as he was in the middle of his tour. Keep The Faith is a brilliant song tho, especially loud.

I liked Can't Let Her Get Away a lot when I first heard it, but I think it's probably aged to be one of the weakest on Dangerous.

That's just your opinion. It's not like I said it was a bad song. But along with Why You Wanna Trip On Me, Heal The World and Gone Too Soon it's one of the least essential on the album. In my opinion. wink

I'm surprised that song didn't hit bigger than it did. No.14 I believe in the US. It went top 10 in the UK, tho'.

Wasn't it released 2 years into the album and during the whole Oprah interview?

Not the best time for MJ and definitely as the album was winding down. If it had been earlier on, I bet it would've done better. Same with "Give Into Me".

It was released in the UK in the summer of '92 but in the US around the spring of '93. So I guess most people who cared about MJ would've had the album by then. Although that didn't stop Will You Be There (its follow up US single) getting into the top 10.

Give In To Me was never released in the US but got to number 2 in the UK. woot!

I almost hate to say it, but I love Dangerous more than I love Thriller. Who Is It kicks major ass.

Personally I prefer Off The Wall, Thriller & Invincible over Dangerous (although it used to be my fave of his) but I appreciate where you're coming from. His hardcore fans usually vote for Dangerous and OTW as his best.

I tell you, 'Who is it', 'Stranger in Moscow' and introspective songs like that showcase Mike at his best. I'd put those two songs up against anyone else's.

Don't get me wrong. I prefer Dangerous over Thriller but nothing beats OTW for me. It's perfect. I can listen to every single song without skipping.

I know what you mean. I can actually endure all his adult solo stuff if I'm in the right mood but there's a few songs that I occasionally skip. Yet none of them are from Off The Wall. smile

Yeah, it was kept off #1 in the UK by one of the biggest hits of the year, 'No Limit' by 2 Unlimited. MJ has this habit of getting #2 hits being held off by MAJOR big sellers (Kylie, Whitney Houston).

Give In To Me was the planned next release in Feb 93, hence the premiere of the video on the Oprah interview, but because of MJ's acappella rendition of Who Is It, that was released due to popular demand. They didn't have a proper video ready for Who Is It and the US got a crappy compilation clip video. Europe got the cool David Fincher directed short film later on.

Really? I didn't know that! David Finchers work is excellent! 'Who is it' is by far the best track on Dangerous. His beatbox abilities are amazing, did anyone hear his 'Tabloid Junkie' thing? The 'Who is it' short film has almost too much style lol never saw something like that again except for 'The Game' but Michael Douglas can't sing.

'Can't let her get away' was a filler to me for a long time, but it grew on me the last couple of years.

I got into his music at the beginning of Dangerous and... yes it is still my favourite album, but there are some tracks I don't like that much like 'Heal the World' or 'Gone too soon'.

I don't hear an attempt at rapping either. It's quite a cool little vocal tick thing, but no way is that a try at a rap.
