Mariah's "Emotions" CD -HER BEST WORK

Most of you know I am not keen on Mariah since her Post-Tommy days. But I still listen once in a while to her early stuff. I've got "Emotions" playing in the background. "EMotions" has always been one of my favorite Mariah CDs (Daydream is second and I haven't gotten into her other stuff after Butterfly). I love her ballads on this:"'Til the End of time" and "SO Blessed" are my faves. "Can't LEt GO" and "If it's over" are great too. Anyone else wanna give props to this CD? You won't see me give Mariah props much more after this thread. no no no!

Emotions is hardly her best work! It was a quick followup with those C+C Music Factory producers to her groundbreaking debut. Not even a comparison!

Everything Post-Tommy is alot closer to who Mariah is musically (hip-hop and r&b vs. pop) and much more personal lyrically than the grandiose slick-as-grease productions on albums like Vision of Love and Music Box. Though you may wish to hear more of those songs that used to challenge her vocals more, I find the lyrics (even though she still wrote them) more impersonal and contrived to a formulaic approach.

Yeah, actually come to think of it Emotions is probably my least favorite.

Stop riding the bandwagon and check out Glitter.

i think this glitter-hoochie-saggy-coochie mariah is so phony. i think she actually was that girl singing emotions. i don't dig any particular mariah era but, if i had to choose one, it would be the early mariah...when she wasn't just like every other half dressed slag on mtv.

if you take away all the image, and just looked at the music (which most NEVER do) "Glitter" is NOT bad, by no means her best, for God's sake that a good album and some just won't admit it.

You wanna know who the real Mariah is? It's the Mariah cira '90 (trust me, I would know). Everything else is either doctored to be more wholesome or more slutty. Motolla and his possie is the reason why some of (if not, most of) her work before "butterfly" and after her self-titled album is a bit on the sappy, boring, too sweet, calculated side. And whoever the hell she's been dealing with recently is the reason why everything from "Butterfly" to "Charmbracelet" is rap/hip hop infested, predictable, and boring.

Her self-titled album is her best, hands down, which is quite ironic but true.
Everything up to "butterfly" is great.
"Butterfly" had me upto "breakdown", but after that the whole album went downhill.
"Rainbow" was damn mess, IMHO.
"Glitter" was enjoyable all the way thru.
and "Charmbraclet" is in the same vein as "Rainbow".

But yeah, "emotions" is a great album. much props to it.

her self-titled debut, Emotions, and half of Music Box are all great. the rest of Music Box sounds like a bland rip off of the good half Music Box, and so has everyting in the following 10 years.

love her earliest stuff though... back when she would actually SING the songs.

she wouldnt have reached very far if she kept on doing that same ol stuff though. That formula was gettin dull.

I've got all of Mariah Carey's CDs and I would say my favourites r:

Music Box ***
Daydream ***
Butterfly ***
Rainbow ***1/2
Glitter ***
Charmbracelet ***1/2

'Emotions' is an OK album but 'Daydream' is the best MC album in my opinion and I like almost every single song from this album. 'Underneath The Stars' is so underrated but its 1 of the best songs from this album.

'Glitter' is also underrated it has some cool 80's-type songs on it and I think its OK but no way as good as her other albums. I would have liked 'Glitter' to have all 80's R&B cover songs, that would b cool

I've been a big Mariah fan since 'Vision Of Love' in 1990 so I like all her albums, but 'Daydream' is my fave overall.

if you think Daydream is her best, why did you rate two of her weaker albums half a star better?

I don't really know how I could rate a Mariah album. I love about half of her songs, and I don't like the other half. All of her albums are inconsistent. There's songs that I love from each of them. Surprisingly, one album that I enjoy most of is Charmbracelet.
