Who Loves Miles Davis' 'Kind Of Blue'? I Do!!! I just wanted to start an appreciation thread for this amazing, brilliant work of art. Never before have five simple tunes given me such joy. Especially after listening to them for what feels like the 100th time!!
In my opinion, "Blue In Green" is one of the most gorgeous things I've ever heard. Bill Evans' piano playing cannot be touched here. Man, I'd literally give my left nut to play that beautifully. And Miles. Goodness, where do I start. To say Miles was at the top of his game in 1959 would be an understatement. And he had Coltrane with him to boot!! Can anybody tell me how they felt when they first heard "Flamenco Sketches"?? Whew, I'm seeing wine, candles, thong panties (Oops!! Did I say that out loud?). Seriously, I don't even think of 'Kind Of Blue" as a jazz record. Just truly brilliant, passionate, landmark music.

I haven't listened to it in at least 6 months now, you
just made me think of it again. It used to be one of my fav records of all time and I played it at least 4 times a week. Let me go and dig it up again, I'm gonna listen to it right now. Turn the lights down low, pour some coffee and light up a box of ciggies. tu-du-du-du-du-du-dududu tuuduu tu-du-du-du-du-du-dududu tuuduu tutututudu tuuduu and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

This is the cd my boyfriend always puts on when we're gonna get nasty. So I don't pay much attention to the music beyond the intro...
I know it's great though.

I know it's great though. Someone once tried that with me too. So I got up, pressed the 'stop' button and said "Oh no, no one is gonna ruin my Kind of Blue for me. I don't want no nasty memories sticking to this record once we break up". Needless to say, it killed the mood. But hey, there are some albums you don't want to "polute". and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

i love me some miles. bitches brew is my personal favorite but i do love kind of blue. especially when i'm cooking a good meal. is that weird? there's just something very sexy about cooking a meal for your closest of close with kind of blue on...a bottle of syrah or cote du rhone...the notes lingering in air as much as the aroma of food. mmm, i'm hungry.

What do mean, "duh"??? You'd be surprised how many people aren't hip to this. I just spoke to a friend via e-mail who said she wasn't familiar with Miles' music. Don't hate on my thread girl, or else I'll have to start another one about 'Sketches Of Spain' just to spite you .

I hear ya! Cooking is very sensual. I'm gonna try that. Although, I think I already have... My boyfriend loves Miles and Coltrane. I'm sure we've cooked with them in the kitchen too. [This message was edited Wed Nov 26 11:59:17 PST 2003 by VinaBlue]

I remember performing "All Blues" at a show with one of the grops I used to play with. I even used my wah-wah peadal. It was groovy. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

The entire group was in the zone on that album. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

OH MY GAWD!! My parents bought me this album when I was like, 15 and I STILL love it (i'm 24 now). Flamenco Sketches is SO beautiful...man, Bill Evans is my favorite pianist...the thing that kills me about this album (and Ive listened 2 it a billion times) is that everything sounds like it could be worked out. Every note seems in the perfect place and listening to it, you forget that these takes were pretty much the first time any of those guys had ever played these tunes! Man, those guys were incredible. I think this album was the best playing some of these guys ever did, Coltrane included!
