It's difficult to put Jim White into a genre. I chose alt country because I wanted to seem insatiably trendy. A number of other genres might be attributable to No Such Place, but they are all unjust. From the shit kicking yokel rock out fest of "Handcuffed to a Fence in Mississippi", to the mournful "Corvair", you never know what's around the corner. Playful lyrics dripping with wit and humor insipidly imbibe themselves into the thirteen eclectic tracks -- anyone who cannot relate to the traditionally inspired country tune "God Was Drunk When He Made Me" is fucking full of shit. Blues, alt-country, rock, slowcore, avant garde -- call it whatever the fuck you like, but this album is fun, sad, interesting, and provocative all in one nice little package that although disparate, comes together as an earnest attempt to make music without falling into the sap-trap that so many musicians peddle as quasi-honesty. check this shit out Verdict: 9 Now I'm older than movies, Now I'm wiser than dreams, And I know who's there

Seriously though... Jimmy White is through to his first world ranking semi-final for three years after beating fellow Englishman Nigel Bond 9-3 at the Travis Perkins UK Championship. Good on him! | |
