i love my new cd changer!!!!

back in september i started building my stereo system. i started with speakers and took it from there. most recently was my new record player and 300 disc changer. the disc changer is possibly my favorite possession! i finally went about the task of filling it today (until today its been stocked with only my prince stuff and some random 10 or so discs) and it has been all day. i've not listened to the same song twice and i have rekindled relationships with older cds that i always seem to forget about. i've been doing all my food prepping for tomorrow with the stereo on and its been the best day!

i've decided that everyone needs one of these. even if it means a 2nd or 3rd job. work for the player and then quit the gig. it'll change your life! its like your own commercial free radio station. truly wondeful!

thanks for letting me share.

I really know what it's like... got mine about three years ago I think.

BUT... It's a hell of a work to fill it (did you do it completely with typing in titles for the display?). Therefore I never ever changed what's in after that. Which is a shame, because I'd really love to have exchanged the older stuff with some new (I didn't limit it to be just Prince CDs - got too much of other artists too).

It's great to finally listen more often to CD singles which one normally doesn't do that often.

Actually, I'm using it quite rarely now. Just one year after the purchase of the CD changer I fell in love with my software jukebox. It's much better. 12.000 tracks on hand, programmed much faster and even more easily than that hardware monster.

Ok, sound quality of mp3s (I use to convert them in 192kbps/VAR format) is not to be compared with CDs. Moreover, them copy controlled CDs over here in Europe are fucking annoying. Which urged me to digitize CDs directly via line in into the computer.

Much more comfortable and still connectable to your HiFi system. And it's always expandable. wink

To be honest, I'm already considering to build up a real high-end media 'puter - this time digitizing my CDs in 1411kbps quality. No loss. A direct copy. Unfortunately, this will have to include a server with several harddiscs connected via a RAID bus. rolleyes

My uncle had a few of those and never got around to filling them! He ended up selling them to various family members. I think he had 6 changers. Anywho, he also has one in a replica jukebox, with the bubbles and everything!

I'd love to do this too someday. One thing I've always wanted to do is make compilations, like party discs, but it depends what kinda party, ya know? Dinner party music would be different than dance party music. But with compilations a 5 disc changer would work quite nicely.

The coolest thing about what you just wrote is the part about rekindling your love for older cds. Isn't it funny how we look at a cd and say "naw," but once we hear it its like "Oh yeah!"

honestly, that's my favorite thing about it. i have some p.i.l. stuff and smiths stuff and belle and sebastion cds that i forgot all about. when i put this thing on random and things just pop up, i'm like "wow, i love this band" and i remember all the attachments i had to these recordings.

it is kind of like having a jukebox in my living room but it is also like a time machine. i can take a 'taxi from la to venus'. wonderful!

This is how I've been listening to music for a couple of years now. 6000 tracks on the computer playing at random. I've found it can also 'fine tune' your taste in music. For example, I recently took all but a couple of the Jesse Johnson songs off as they were starting to piss me off.
The only drawback is that they're only 320k mp3's. I'd love to get a large hard drive and have it all lossless.

I have one PIL cd, 9. I saw them live on that tour. They did a festival here. That's how I got into them because they were a great live band. I was up in the risers and it struck me that they were playing beautiful music and people were moshing in front. I LOVE Disapointed and Happy. Great songs. I've never bought a Smiths cd, I need to get some. I remember recording their songs off the radio. Same with Oingo Boingo. Last night I thought, "Shit, I don't have any Onigo Boingo cds!"
