As someone in possession of an American passport,

in general I would say that the British minimally have a more diversified musical taste.

The 1st time I lived overseas, there were several British friends & colleagues who were (surprisingly to me) as into AL GREEN, BOOTSY, & some others as I was. they exposed me to music that I'd never heard of; more than I exposed to them, anyway.

In terms of doing various music styles, I think the Brits do them as well as Americans, except

funk (& I will exclude Average White Band here)

&

country (although there probably are good equivilents I simply haven't heard of)..

Yeah.
For the most part I would say that most British musicians are as good (if not better) as their US counterparts
&
in terms of "musical taste"
(which is already VERY subjective),
the British do have a better appreciation of a wider variety of musical styles.
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

LOL!

You are complaining about Spice Girls and Robbie Williams!! That must be a joke!

Remember America gave the New Kids on the block, Tiffany, etc. to the world!! Now I know why the music industry is going downhill!

The music industry started going downhill long before NKOTB and Tiffany. It can all be traced back to BAY CITY ROLLERS.Bay City Rollers got the ball rolling & all evil in the record industry can be traced back to them.

And what country do we have to thank for the musical monstrosity known as the Bay City Rollers???
The UK - who else!!!

While the British are mo' fickle and spoiled than the Americans, British however are waaay mo' LOYAL to the ol'schoolers. They sho are a loyal audience!

Every ol' school artists from US who got forgotten is still getting dues and props from British ppl.

Tina Turner 4 example, someone who wouldn't be mentioned along the lines with Aretha, Gladys, Chaka and Patti even tho she paid mo' dues than some of them, struggled in her own country but at the end who gave her the right dues and welcomed her with open arms? British folks.

The late Nina Simone is another example of what I'm talking about. Altho she admits that British ppl get on her nerves with some of their traditions, they however are more of a following audience than Americans. She also said "They welcome any changes and chances,,,they're chameleon spirits".

My homegirl Chaka Khan said that pre4ming in front of British folks is a BIG challange becoz she knows that she'll give her best to full effect otherwise she's outta there. The ppl there are so much into their biz "You don't get followed by a fuckin' parade like New Yorkers or Californians". Also, the lifestyle there helped her to be sober.

Mary J Blige said mo' than once that British audience are "Real as a pinch in yo ass. They would boo you out the door if you ain't got you shit 2ghether". Same as Chaka, Mary faces alot of challange while pre4ming in London.

Yep,,,some of the British Audience truely rock headbang

Break it down, break it down.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

I'm from the UK but only have a few CDs by UK artists like David Bowie (his greatest hits set) etc. the rest r all from the US R&B/Soul/Funk and Rap artists.

So US music (in my opinion) is far better than the UK...sorry UK orgers!
