alicia's you dont know my name is all sampled from this old main ingredient song. im quite dissapointed to hear that cos its just a straight, unchanging loop. loops are for hip hop, not soul IMO. | |

You sure it's Main Ingredient?? I know I've definitely heard the music before from somewhere but I can't put my finger on just which song it is. This is just yet another song of her either sampling or blatantly ripping off an old-school track (just "Fallin'" stole from JB's "It's A Man's World"). | |

Don't mean we always gotta like and accept it, either. As usual per her material, I can leave it. | |

The song is excellent, but for me, it's more difficult to appreciate and respect a sampled track than an original one. Her first album relied heavily on samples (or "reinterpretations"). I hope this isn't a trend. | |

--- WoW I am really disappointed. I was starting to think this sister had some talent and was going to leave up to the hype. What a shame!!! | |

Just got her album today, I haven't listened to it all the way thru yet. But so far it is alright...no more, no less. I prefer the first half to the second, it kind of loses momentum halfway thru.
When 'Songs in A Minor' came out, I couldn't get enough of it for two weeks, after that I lost interest. I'll see how I get on with this one. | |

Everyone knows the songs aren't actually in the key of A minor... its just a title with a nod to her initial. CinisterCee - Songs in C Dorian | |

When asked about her almost a year ago: "She calls her album, 'Songs In A Minor,' and all of the songs are in E and D. I don't think she knows her grammatic skill, personally. I think she's 'The Gong Show.' When she did the Donny Hathaway song in front of millions of people and fucked it up, that just goes to show you right there what's going on?What about Rachelle Ferrell, or Lalah Hathaway? What about all these serious bitches that can really sing? Alicia Keys? Because Clive Davis eats the best See's Candies and gives the best whatever, and wants to show Whitney [Houston] that she ain't shit, yeah, he's going to put his effort in Alicia Keys." In other words: She's overrated as hell and does not deserve all the credit she gets when there are others out there MUCH better than her. Oh my DAYMN that ol' man has one helluva sharp tongue *whew* lol! I respect him 4 keepin' it gully and raw | |

I'm looking for it too. I had already assumed that Alicia had samled some old tune. You can even hear a sampled vocal looped in towards the end of the song. Its nice, nonetheless. AK has talent, but she was/is highly overrated. Her last album was average. Hopefully, her new album features more enjoyable cuts like "You Don't Know My Name." Michael never stopped! | |

I'll have to agree with what has been said so far. I'm not really surprised at all. That's the "rule" of artist today, you use other peoples stuff AS your art form because it's the quick easy way. That has stifled the creativity of today's "artist".
Without getting to the point of "hatin'", the only thing I will say about Alicia is I appreciate her work, but she is WAAAY overrated, and the fact that so many people think she is great is a screaming example of how far the public has fallen in what we will accept as talent. And, not meaning to stir anything up too much, but I think the dominance hip hop has taken in "black" music is the main culprit in the "watering" down of our acceptance level of talent today. I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin. | |
