Its a great EP, im very happy with the mixes on there and the VMA performace is a must to have,

Im not a fan of the new track though, it just doest seem to fit in with the rest of the EP and her present sound. It sounds more like an outtake from the LAP album (which im not a big fan off) rather than a BS outtake
This love is a private affair

Uh...what the heck is wrong with the LAV album?!!! For that time it was a solid piece of work, albeit it may have a dated sound to it. That album will go down as one of Maddy's classics...(along with LAP, Erotica and ROL)

yes, unfortunately that seems to be the case confused

what's wrong with it, though, is that 75% of the songs suck, the production was pretty lame even in 1984 (compare it to Bowie's "Let's Dance" from just a year prior, and done by the same producer), her voice sucked (albeit in a charming way), it is, in effect, a 5 song EP with a few b-sides thrown on to fill it up to 30+ minutes wink

Very good analysis.I agree,'American Life' isn't as strong as 'Ray Of Light' but let's be honest, can Madonna really top 'ROL'? That album is like her 'Sign O The Times'

This is like a thread in itself: DavidEye's thesis that Ray Of Light is Madonna's Sign O The Times! I completely concur. Ray Of Light was Madonna's best release in the 90s, and probably one of the decade's finest.

I think American Life is far more cohesive as an album in concept and sound than Music and for that reason makes Music seem like a in-between transitional album, but it seems crtics would have the public believe otherwise! Not even the critics actually.. it seems the public believes American Life is the weaker album! eek

yeah, i really don't get that. okay, so people may like the upbeatness and mindlessness of Music's good-time pop, but to say that it's a better ALBUM than American Life is just baffling. borderline retarded...

"Don't Tell Me" is pretty darn good, though.

as were several of the individual songs. they just don't hang all that well together as an album. more like a mix CD.

If Madonna had released this as A Special Edition 2 CD set of American Life with this EP as the bonus disc nobody would blink. Except to ridicule a Special Edition of an unpopular CD. Lots of groups release double cd Special Editions of big selling cds. But American Life wasn't a big seller so there is no call for a Special Edition. I think Madonna fans are pretty lucky this got released at all.

You mean like the "deluxe" version of Kylie Minogue's Fever with the bonus disc of remixes..

Exactly.
Pet SHop Boys have done it.
No Doubt has done it.
Annie Lennox has done it.
If its a cd you haven't bought its great.
If its a cd you've already bought it sucks to have to buy it again.

Yes, I do enjoy the LAV album. I also enjoy all of her other albums minus I'm Breathless and American Life. But you always conveniently leave that part out.

But I'll just stop there, because I obviously know more than you if you think that your opinion matters to me.

like a virgin is a great album. it may be cheesy by todays standards but so are many of prince's early cds. i hate to say it but like a virgin could have been a prince cd as far as content and style go. like a virgin is my one of my least fave madonna cds but i still recognize that is was a great record for its time.

Agreed. It hasn't stood the test of time as well as her other material.

Except Let's Dance kinda sucked too by Bowie's standards.

I can think of countless albums that year that were much better.

agree about Let's Dance sucking by Bowie standards. but from a pop production standpoint, it's leagues ahead of the same producer's work just a year later on LAV.

'Like A Virgin' was a great album for it's time, but I rarely listen to it nowadays. There's a problem I have with alot of 80s music...much of it sounds over-synthesized and over-produced,it really doesn't age well.In fact,I rarely listen to Madonna's first three albums. Her first real masterpiece was 'Like A Prayer' and with few exceptions, every subsequent album has been amazing.
