I'm with you on that. I have so many CD's that it's next to impossible to keep them in order. And I'm over my Case Logic 400 CD holders.. way too bulky

Ipods and the like play MP3s, yes? MP3s and radio are killing the music. Killing it! Boycott this and other 'convenience' oriented devices and the artform as a whole will be healthier.

I have to disagree with you on that, the music and the radio dj's who play the crappy music, it's what's killing it, not mp3's or ipods lol. How many times can I listen to that dayum Britney Spears songs (they play it every hour of the hour) So I just drift off into my own music world. Free of the Britney Zone. This ipod would be my new love.

I hear what you're saying but the DJs don't plan their playlists, Clear Channel does, so what you're hearing is Clear Channel's ideas of what will sell, not what music lovers want to hear and if consumers begin to settle for MP3 quality sound on their music formats, we will all be the losers. Don't let them bamboozle you!

I barely listen to the radio. the only time I do, is when I'm in the car or something. I've always been the type of person to listen to my own music, even back in the days when mp3's wasn't popular. So to have this ipod would be just a dream for me. I would be soo in love.

when they make one that can play pure uncompressed 16bit 44.1KHz (and higher) wavs and store them on a 100 gigabyte card the size of a postage stamp, not shitty short-term compressed formats invented purely for space savings (and which some are linking to hearing loss and other problems due to machines doing the perceptual coding instead of the human ear, resulting in some problems for the human ear -- long story, don't have a link at hand)...then call me.

I'd rather buy a portable DAT recorder than this.

My ex-wife wants one of these for Christmas... and dammit, we're on good terms! disbelief lol

How much does one of these go for? Around $400, right?

And how many songs do they hold?

Well the i'm getting is underneath $300, plus I get like 15% off, because I have the store's credit card.

And to Cynical Bastard it can't be no worst then when we use to listen to our walkmans back in the days. This is just one step up 2wards technology and I'm hoping on the boat, lost of hearing or not. I probably got more dammage done to my ears, going to live concerts, siting in front row, then listening to my headphones, but I say, you don't get the best of music unless, you ears are rininging from the volume beaing turned up anyways .

biggrin No, it's different now though, coz they are throwing out music we "can't hear", in other words the sounds that are masked by other sounds and stuff that we don't perceive, but the thing is we still 'receive' these tones in normal music/hearing. Our ears normally do the 'filtering' if u like, resulting in our perception of what we can and cannot hear. Now it's done my machines before it reaches the ear. Anyway, I have read some experts question the long-term effects of listening to compressed audio formats and how it affects the ear. Was a fascinating article which I seem to have misplaced.

Anyway, it's a long story. But I think we should be looking at far greater storage density rather than short-term compressed formats to work around our current high-cost-per-megabyte limited storage situation.

In a perfect world of course smile
...hence my preference for a hardcore portable DAT to listen to music on.

...but I'm anal about these things so I will never be satisfied with compressed audio formats by nature smile

As a dj i think it's all relative, i still collect vinyl and only buy cds if it's not on vinyl, choose your format it's the music that counts!
