Singer Glen Campbell Taken Into Custody

PHOENIX - Country singer Glen Campbell (news) was taken into custody Monday on suspicion of drunken driving after he left the scene of a minor vehicle accident, police said.

Campbell was also being held on suspicion of hit and run, and aggravated assault on a police officer. Phoenix police Sgt. Randy Force said that as Campbell was being processed at the police station, he kneed a sergeant in the thigh.

The two-car crash happened about 5 p.m. at a Phoenix intersection, Force said. No one was hurt, but afterward Campbell's BMW continued on.

A witness followed the car, called police on a cell phone and directed them to a home in the Biltmore area, Force said.

"Officers contacted the driver of that BMW who was Glen Campbell," he said. "Based on his appearance and demeanor, they believed he was intoxicated and took him into custody."

Campbell was being held on suspicion of "extreme" drunken driving. Departmental policy prevents authorities from releasing the results of blood-alcohol tests, Force said, but extreme drunken driving applies when results are above .15. The legal limit for drivers in Arizona is .08.

Force said Campbell was alone in the car.

The entertainer was booked into a Phoenix jail and was expected to make an initial appearance before a judge Monday night.

Force said the sergeant kneed by Campbell was not hurt.

In his booking photo, Campbell was seen smiling and wearing an Arizona Diamondbacks polo shirt.

This is weird news because, he's supposedly been "saved" and given up drinking and drugs.

lol...just recently,I re-discovered his 1977 hit "Southern Nights"

he was only arrested because he is a popular white musician.
