Their new album is supposed to be called "Bleedthrough" and possibly will be released somewhere in Q1 2004...

There is no "they". Trent is NIN. Kinda like Prince is the NPG.
My DC Direct wishlist: 1) Bane, 2) Prof Zoom, 3) Superman Blue, 4) Kilowag, 5) Parasite

Well, it seems the new album is gonna be more of a band effort than the usual "Trent Reznor solo act" which could be a good thing...
I like Clouser's stuff and Lohner did some really great remixes the last couple of years and if those are an indication of what the album's gonna be like than it's all good...

Oh. I thought maybe Trent finally got some decent therapy and ain't angry no more, so he's putting out environmental records... birds chirping, water running.

Pretty Hate Machine is one of the top 5 rock albums of all time. They will never repeat. Just won't happen. I refused to buy The Fragile because after a while I just realized PHM just couldnt be surpassed.

Well - it can't be surpassed, but I WILL give him credit that the Fragile DID have some interesting stuff in it. There's no Head Like a Hole (well, no, there's LOTS of songs trying to be it) but there's some more interesting stuff that's NOT in the "you wounded me and now I'm angry" vein. That song that goes "try to save myself but myself keeps slipping" was good. He's just delved too far into the world of wierdnoises now. Come on back from the chasm, make some jams again.

I love "The Wretched"

That song is good when you're feeling particularly evil.

The Fragile could have been a close second to PHM, had it been pared down to one disc. Just too much stuff that doesn't go anywhere. If Trent had removed some of the dead-weight, that disc could have been KILLER, since it has some truly fantastic stuff on it.

I am curious about "Bleedthrough". If Clouser has an expanded role, that bodes well. Just have to see...

I would *LOVE* it if Trent & Co. veered away from the angsty-decay fixation of the previous albums and went into some kinda bizarro new territory that folks wouldn't expect...like maybe a perved-out Brian Wilson trip a la Psychic TV, or something cold and synthetic with cracks of the familiar NIN rage peeking through the cracks...the idea of Trent becoming a one-note Sally is kind of a bummer...

I sooo agree! I wanna hear Trent sing about some different shit other than how much he hates himself.

WHERE IS EVERYBODY?

:HEADBANG:

did you happen to catch
or did it happen so fast
what you thought would always last
has passed you by
is everything speeding up
or am i slowing down
just spinning around
and i don't know why
all the pieces don't fit
though i didn't really give a shit
i never wanted to be like you
but for all i aspire
i am really a liar
and i'm running out of things i can do

i'd like to stay
but every day
everything pushes me further away
if you could show
help me to know
how it's supposed to be
where did it go?

pleading and
needing and
bleeding and
breeding and
feeding
exceeding
where is everybody?
trying and
lying
defying
denying
crying and
dying
where is everybody?

well okay, enough.
you've had your fun
but come on there has got to be someone
that hasn't yet become
so numb
succumb
and
god damn i am so tired of pretending
of wishing i was ending
when all i'm really doing is trying to hide
and keep it inside
and fill it with lies
open my eyes?
maybe i wish i could try

pleading and
needing and
bleeding and
breeding and
feeding
exceding
where is everybody?
trying and
lying
defying
denying
crying and
dying
where is everybody?

Hm. Dunno. On one hand, it would be thrilling to see (hear) him do something completely different. While on the other hand I must admit I was drawn back to related artists sticking to more song structured patterns - which makes me feel like being a rather ordinary consumer.

Filter is nice but sometimes (well, most times) too commercial. Yet I love the remixes and solo work of Chris Vrenna (second solo effort released soon - again featuring a David Sylvian collaboration). Also, Pigface has a great variety I haven't explored in detail yet... and The Damage Manual (aka Jah Wobble, Chris Connelly, Geordie Walker, Martin Atkins) can be really mindblowing. Discovered their first EP by pure coincidence.

But a new NIN album is definitely something to look forward to.

Yes I have to agree. One of my fav aspects of being a NIN fan is that Trent and company release some FANTASTIC remixes of his work. Come on the man released an official remix album of one of his actual albums!!! How cool is that!!!

And for the record; my personal fav NIN CD is broken . That shit rocks!

Since industrial music is kinda dead and buried, they'd need to put a new twist on his sound and come out with something fresh. They're a talented group so I'm sure they can pull something off.

Vibrator

When The Downward Spiral came out one reviewer wrote "If Ministry is chrome, then Nine Inch Nails is rust." That made me go and buy it without even listening to it first. It was a great decision. Hearing it straight through for the first time at home blew me away. I still think it´s their/his best album.

For anyone interested, these are supposedly titles of 3 songs on the new album:

"The Line Begins To Blur",
"Everyday Is Exactly The Same"
"My Dead Friend".

Eh, NIN is done...DONE. The Downward Spiral sucked, actually everything but Pretty Hate Machine and Broken sucked. Trent needs to do something different now.

Do you really consider NIN to be industrial? I put them in the Marilyn Manson category...more like hard rock. Neither band can be compared to Skinny Puppy or older KMFDM stuff.
