Eryka Badu: Worldwide Underground

Bought this out of curiosity. This is a great buy a superb album, I’ll definitely be buying some of Eryka’s back catalogue. What do you think orgers?

Its hard to compare the too, really!

Matta o' fact, all of her albums are different than each other. I guess thats why I'm diggin' the woman!

This is less organic however,,,its not really an album(just some leftovers from her tour I think).

I love "Back In The Day"(Puff),,,tight feel-good music.

i don't think they are similar enough to compare. its apples and oranges. but, in the end, worldwide will get more play from me than baduizm.

Co-sign totally... except for the fact that I'm not buying the old albums as... I already have them! wink

Technically, "Worldwide Underground" is an EP, produced by Erykah under pressure from her record label even while she struggled with writer's block. And it is apparent at times in "Worldwide Underground." Still the EP flows well and is a nice record to drive to. "Back in the Day" and "I Want You" (esp the last few minutes with guitar--a shame she didn't develop that further) are my favorites.

"Mama's Gun" is the classic album to get, tho. "Baduizm" was cool, as was its live counterpart (if only for "Tyrone" and her cover of Chaka). But "Mama's Gun" was amazing and really put her over the top. Listen to "Green Eyes"--a song in three movements--and tell me that ain't genius.

WWU is ok, but a lot of it seems half-finished. its a shame it took three years just for this - its a load of odds and ends. but i like it all the same.

Yeah but at least Erykah was honest about the conditions under which it was produced--i.e., writers block / record label pressure.

but shes only had 2 albums, its strange that artists get writers block so fast these days. same thing happened to dangelo, though WWU is stronger, songwise than voodoo. those two are suposed to be the leaders in neosoul but theyre not setting the example like theyre meant to.

YEP!!! Mama's Gun is the classic for me. Baduizm is an introduction to Mama's Gun and that's how I view it.

Erykah is unbelievable live. That's when you will fall in love with her.
