What do you think about the tracklisting for the new box set. Is there any B-side or lost track you feel should have been included?

I haven't heard at least half of these b-sides so I think it sounds like a great collection.
Did they leave off any b-sides?

What's missing?

* Carnage Visors - the 20+ instrumental found on the b-side of the cassette version of FAITH (hard to listen to 'though...)
* The remixed High and Open from the limited edition of the High-12" (Trip Mix and Fix Mix I guess)
* also the remixes of most of the WILD MOOD SWINGS album (not that care about those)

Those are not really b-sides I know. As far as i can see all official former new b-side songs are included and also many more rare songs i never heard about like (thanks heaven for copy & paste!)

* LAMENT (flexipop version)
* ICING SUGAR (weird remix)
* HOW BEAUTIFUL YOU ARE (clearmountain 7" remix)
* HELLO I LOVE YOU (psychedelic version)
* DOING THE UNSTUCK (saunders 12" remix)
* POSSESSION [a new song?]
* JUST SAY YES (curve remix) [from planned single?]
* A FOREST (plati/slick version)

wow, i already forgot about that set! can't wait until it's next year so it will be in stores! *joy* smile

So far I think Hey You should have been added since it does not appear on the Cd version of Kiss Me. Maybe they will include it on the remastered versions coming out next year.

the only thing i'm really disappointed about are the absense of the Lost Wishes instrumentals. But presumably they will be included on the re-issue of Wish when it comes out next year.

i think the version of Hey You!!! is the one on one of the KISS ME singles. there was an "extended version" of the song.

I still don't understand why people keep crying that this isn't included. What would you rather have, a 27 minute ultra-repetitive instrumental, or 27 more minutes of b-sides and other material that folks would actually listen to more than once? I'm SURE this will be on the Faith reissue.

Shoy said:

I would have liked to see these on the box set too. Since they're not, i'm hoping they'll be on the Wish reissue. Also, I've got those mixes, and while the High (trip mix) is cool, I really don't see any difference between the album version and the "fix mix" of open ... someone enlighten me!

Shoy said:

god I fucking hated that album. and the remixes from that album.

* LAMENT (flexipop version)
This is very cool. I'm hoping the vocals are a lot clearer than on my mp3 of it.

* ICING SUGAR (weird remix)
An excellent track, includes a beautiful orchestral intro.

* HOW BEAUTIFUL YOU ARE (clearmountain 7" remix)
I don't see the logic behind including this one on the box set. Why not save it for the kiss me reissue? It's not that it's a bad mix, there's some interesting things happening especially if you're listening with a good pair of headphones, but it's so close to the original album version that why bother? I would have chosen the extended mix of Hey You instead.

* HELLO I LOVE YOU (psychedelic version)
Haven't heard this one either but it's supposed to be superiour to the one on Rubiyat.

* DOING THE UNSTUCK (saunders 12" remix)
This was never relesed, and i haven't heard it either, but the rest of the Wish era remixes were excellent so I have high hopes for this one.

* POSSESSION [a new song?]
This is an outake from the bloodflowers sessions. Haven't heard it, can't wait to.

* JUST SAY YES (curve remix) [from planned single?]
This is one of the two new songs that were included on the cure greatest hits cd from 2001. It's horrid. The original "non remixed" version is from the bloodflowers sessions and has never been released. I have it tho, and it's a decent track. I wish they'd included this original version instead of the remix.

* A FOREST (plati/slick version)
I don't know anything about this but it couldn't possibly be better than the "tree mix" from the mixed up album, could it?

Anyway, there are a few things I'd like to have seen included that weren't, and they better appear on the reissues.

*Spilt Milk
One of the best songs they've done in years. From the bloodflowers sessions.

*Just Say Yes (original version)
See above

*You're So Happy (You could kill me)
Another bloodflowers outake. I have this, and it doesn't sound like anything else they've ever done.

*Hey You
deleted from the Kiss Me cd due to lack of space. This undoubtably will be on the reissue.

*cuT HEre (yes that's exactly the title, look at it closely)
new song from the greatest hits collection.

*Pictures of You (Video version)
Have you heard the 7" remix of this song? This would be the extended version of that mix. Very cool.

*A Letter To Elise (extended mix)
NOT the blue mix. This was only released as a promo.

*Wendy Time (original)
This would include that extra verse that appears on the lyric sheet but not in the song.

*Cut (away)
Is there a studio version similar to the early live one that appears on Play Out?

*Heavy World
another outake from bloodflowers

*Primary (extended)
rare longer version, hopefully will be on the reissue.

Considering that there are so many songs that appear in the box set in multiple versions (i.e. purple haze, lament, signal to noise, hello i love you) a good amount of the songs I listed above could have been included.....

we don't need two versions of lament. They should have just included the flexipop version.

Purple Haze: don't need the Stone Free version, just the virgin radio version, which is the stone free version before chuck new remixed it for the album. It's never been officially released.

Signal To Noise: no need to include the acoustic version.

Hello I love you: They could have included the psychedelic version and the slight return (which is only 10 seconds long) and dropped the rubiyat version.

Also I'm still hoping that Mixed Up, if it is reissued, gets greatly expanded to include more of the out of print 12" mixes, especially the wish era mixes.

2 QUESTIONS
1
I haven't heard of the reissues - when are they being released?
2What are the Lost Wishes instrumentals?
Been a long time Cure fan & this is the first I've heard of them.

last word I heard was they'd start the reissue program in February of 2004. They're re-releasing the albums in groups of three, every three months. Each one will come with a second disc of outakes, demos and other material from that album's sessions. The first batch to be released are:

Kiss Me, Kiss Me Kiss Me
Disintegration
Bloodflowers

The "lost wishes" is a cassette that was briefly available to the cure fan club back in '92-93. It consisted of four instrumental tracks from the "wish" sessions. The songs are:

The Three Sisters
Uyea Sound
Off To Sleep
Cloudberry

They're ok, but nothing to write home about. There's other instrumental tracks from those sessions (Slivvy, Heart Attack) as well.

I've heard that this has been changed. I heard it will be 4 albums at a time starting with their debut and released chronologically. The breakdown will probably go as follows

Group 1: Boys Don't Cry/Seventeen Seconds/Faith/Pornography
Group 2: Japanese Whispers/The Top/Head On A Door/Kiss Me x 3
Gropu 3: Disintegration/Wish/Wild Mood Swings/Bloodflowers

Of course if they add Concert, Standing On A Beach, Entreat, Mixed Up, Show, Paris, etc., it'll change things quite a bit.

Wow, that's even better. I don't have a lot of cure on cd anyway. Most of my stuff is on tape, and vinyl.

Concert would be a great reissue, as I'm sure they played more than ten songs that day. Entreat, Show and Paris likewise could be expanded. Show being the easiest one, as everywhere but the US it's already a two disc set and there's even more material on the video release (not to mention I was at one of those shows, so I want a complete copy of it!)

Standing on a beach? Kind of pointless considering the box set. I'd like to see mixed up redone as it's own box set, but that won't happen, i'm sure.

With The Cure reissues & The Eurythmics reissues & the possibility of Prince reissuesI should be broke by midsummer.
In addition to needed a lot more shelf space.

I agree. That's where it belongs.

The large number of b-sides included from "The Walk" makes me wonder whether Japanese Whispers will be reissued at all.

I love the Stone Free version!

Keep in mind also that this is a b-sides collection.

The Bloodflowers and Wish outtakes, Pirate Ships, Forever, Easy Cure demos, etc. can be saved for the reissues. They make more sense there since they were never released.

Good point about Charlotte Sometimes, Never Enough and Wrong Number... I assume they'll fit somewhere, probably the closest album. Charlotte Sometimes would be a natural fit on Faith, Never Enough probably on Wish and Wrong Number I would guess Wild Mood Swings.

I don't have the Box Set track list in front of me, but aren't all the non-single Japanese Whispers tracks included? And if that's the case, will Japanese Whispers - which is not a real album, after all - be included in the reissues? If that was the plan, why include Lament, Just One Kiss, Speak My Language, The Dream on the Box Set? I guess only time will tell, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Japanese Whispers skipped when it comes to the reissues - unless we know for sure it's planned as a reissue.

As for Wild Mood Swings - i really think it's the most underrated of the Cure's albums. It suffers from poor sequencing and a couple weak tracks. I did my own version of Wild Mood Swings recently, adding the B-Sides and deleting Club America, and completely resequenced, and it's much better IMHO smile it works with the "pop" songs in the middle, bookended by the darker songs. And the choices of singles were way off too... A Pink Dream should have been the 1st single, followed by Return, then Strange Attraction and Mint Car. A Pink Dream is a great song... has a bit of an InBetween Days vibe, with really cool dreamy lyrics... can't imagine why it was left off the album...Oh well. Enough revisionist history from me, LOL smile

1. want
2. it used to be me
3. trap
4. waiting
5. this is a lie

6. return
7. mint car
8. strange attraction
9. gone!
10. the 13th
11. round and round and round
12. a pink dream

13. jupiter crash
14. home
15. numb
16. adonais
17. treasure
18. ocean
19. bare

that's pretty cool; I'd put it used to be me at the very end of the disc tho.

TRON said:

Hmm. Good question. Charlotte sometimes ..... didn't that come out in the Faith or Pornography era? It'll most likely end up on one of those.

Never Enough ..... that's a puzzle for sure. It's post disintegration and pre-wish. I honestly can't guess.

Wrong number, same thing. in between albums.

that's pretty damn cool, but I'd put it used to be me at the very end of the disc.

yeah ain't that cool as hell?

no doubt. what could possibly be added other than the extended mixes of just one kiss, let's go to bed and the lovecats?

I love the Stone Free version!

So do I. I'm just can't wait to hear the version that wasn't produced by chuck new.

Now mind you this is assuming there is overlap between the box set content and the reissues. I may be completely wrong about the plan...

Three Imaginary Boys/Boys Don't Cry

Disc One: Three Imaginary Boys

10:15 saturday night
accuracy
grinding halt
another day
object
subway song
foxy lady
meathook
so what?
fire in cairo
it's not you
three imaginary boys
the weedy burton

Disc Two: Easy Cure/ETC
boys don't cry
plastic passion
jumping someone else's train
i'm cold
world war
do the hansa
pillbox tales
heroin face
boys don't cry (demo)
i'm cold (demo)
plastic passion (demo)
I just Need Myself
See The Children
I Want To Be Old

anyone with additions/corrections?

i really don't want "i dig you" and "i'm a cult hero" to be included. I realize they're an important part of the history, but they suck, and they technically aren't the cure.

funny how i dont' feel the same way about the glove tho. The Glove is awesome and deserves to be represented in these reissues, if only with "perfect murder", "mr alphabet says", "relax", and "a blues in drag"...
