Otkast made the record Prince should be making!

I finally bought this Cd and I've only litened through once and I can tell this has all the elemnts of the old Prince records- DMSR and the "I dont give a fuck if you get it, I'm recording it cause it's funky" attitude.

This Cd is all over the place and that's what Prince used to do when I listened to his records. You had to listen multiple times to catch all the parts and changes. You put on Rainbow children and you pretty much get one vibe all the way through.

The fact that Outkast is #1 is unbelievable because even "Hey Ya" isn't much of a sellout song IMO. These guys are very important to today's music- they're taking chances and not conforming, yet still SELLING! They also have a sens of humor, something that Prince has lost on his records lately. I hope Prince is listening..

That's a little harsh. Prince has made these records. In fact, OutKast drew heavily on his records to make this one.

Yes, Prince has lost the sense of fun and humour that permeated his earlier works.

rolleyes Yeah, really. Just because a couple of tracks sound Prince-ish, everybody's comparing and contrasting. I think it's a lot more diverse than that if you really listen.

Besides, this thread is obviously about Dre's half of things. But who's talking about "Speakerboxxx"?

I can't help but always chuckle at these Outkast = Prince threads, cuz it pushes folks' buttons every dang time. Prince is where he is, Outkast are where they are, both include stylistic homages to their heroes in their music, and everyone's happy. Right?

What I can't understand is this:

Andre is influenced by PRINCE (Everyone knows this)

Andre's CD sounds like PRINCE (Everyone agrees with this)

Yet, if this is true, them why is Andre #1 across the world, and getting "Album Of The Year" nods when P hardly get recognised at all?

Don't get me wrong, I love them both, I just can't understand the logic of the music buying public at times (and those who hand out awards). Why do people say "I don't like Prince", but happily rock along to Outkast all the same? U'd think if they were so much alike, they'd get the same recoginition as well

I see what you're saying. But let's face it,Prince is out of the mainstream and he has been for many years.Even if he recorded a fun, wild party album like 'The Love Below',it won't get played on the radio or on MTV.If he were to record a catchy, danceable song like "Hey Ya!",nobody would hear it except for us diehards...lol...that's the price you pay when you leave a major record label and become an independent artist. You might make more money, but you don't get much exposure or airplay.

As a whole I like The Love Below better than Speakerboxxx, but the song I like best off all songs must be Big Boi's 'BowTie', that shit is funky!

if Prince had put out The Love Below... just exchange Andre's vocals for Prince's... it would have been ignored by everyone except Prince fans, just like TRC. The bottom line is that Prince is not taken seriously by the media or the general public anymore, and it not "cool".

'Outkast made the record Prince should be making!'

Why the hell does everybody keep saying that shit? I don't get it!

You mofos get caught up in the HYPE waaay too much otherwise none would say pointless shit like that.

The one reason why Prince SHOULDN'T do this is becoz its pedictable and its way too "been there-done that" 4 him.

He shouldn't do that becoz he delievered MUCH BETTA, he coulda done this shit in his sleep with a stanky, loud & juicy fart(excuse my ghetto french) but he wouldn't becoz that would be pointless and absloutly unlike him.

And EVEN if he made that album? Ya'll mofos will even stick with the COMPLAINING SAGA so either way, he ain't gaining shit from ya'll.

So why bother?

You folks read things wrong and pinch a loaf right away.

The original post seemed to say PRINCE WAS GREAT with the way he was adventurous, disrespectful of trends, etc... something that Prince hasn't tried in at least 7 or 8 years (well, up until NEWS).

Lyrically and musically, there IS a similarity. And Prince HAS NOT explored 10 different styles the way he used to when he'd go from LETS WORK to ANNIE CHRISTIAN to JACK U OFF. Outkast is doing that.

And to piss and moan that somebody JUST NOW got into a record that YOU tards were into 2 WHOLE MONTHS AGO is SOOO sophomoric. When you fruits were peeing your pants over this record, didn't it bother you when somebody else told you that you were sooo 5 minutes ago? OR - were you in the studio when the record was being recorded, so only DRE got to tell you that you're all excited over something that's SOOO 4 months ago.

Stupid. Just plain stupid. LET a person get excited over new music. You twits are posting at PRINCE.ORG for pete's sake, not CMJ.COM... PRINCE. A guy who ruled the music world 20 years ago.

Dre's CD has a lot of Prince influence. Like the song"She lives in my lap" souunds heavily Prince influenced and Big Boi has a more George Clinton Feel to it. Prince does what he does and you can't compare a rap group from the ATL to his royal badness from Minneapolis they are two different animals.

My music:
www.soundclick.com/ultrasound

I'm sorry, but Rave was NOT too adventurous. Rainbow WAS, once you ignore the lyrics... and, okay, to an extent, he WAS singing bout some stuff that was obviously not too popular. But I'm speaking of the Emancipation thru Rave era, where it sounds like P is just working a lil' too hard to reach the kids.

And no, I will NEVER be as good as Prince, and in no way did ANY of my comments indicate that I thought I was anywhere close. But, hey, if you think so, I'll send you a dollar.

We all need to take a chill pill

P's got at least 15 years on OutKast. They're going to sound different.
