This is some kind of attempt at a music review:

The Album Everyone Should Own

Laura Nyro-New York Tendaberry

WOW!! This is not your typical pop album. Dramatic, erotic, abstract, impassioned, resplendent, haunting.
A woman sitting at her piano pouring out her pain, lust, joy, rage, poetry,& complexity.
(What did you think Kate Bush or Tori Amos invented this or something?)
When you listen, you will feel like the room is spinning, like making love, like crying your eyeballs out.
Vocals that are so intense, they'll knock your socks off, listening to her sing might just have the same effect that you get when you hear Coltrane's solos on A Love Supreme.
And then there's the music, with its intricate arrangements, complex harmony, and shifting rhythms.
This is art,not just entertainment.
And it is not background music, this is the kind of thing you sink your teeth into.

The influence of this refulgent masterpiece can be heard in so many recordings that have come after including Joni Mitchell's Blue,Todd Rundgren's early stuff, various songs from Tori Amos,Fiona Apple,Rufus Wainwright and many others.

This will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.
I GUARANTEE IT!!!

And please don't come at me with "Enough about Laura Nyro already" because other people start numerous threads about Outkast,Michael Jackson, and whoever else.so its only fair for me to go on and on about artists I like.
ok?

Frankly, samples aren't a good enough judge in most cases, there are so many things going on in this record, and a few surprises, you have the hear the songs in their entirety.

My roommate in college had this album & its good but the one I really loved was her cover album she did with Patti LaBelle & The Blue Bells singing with her.
Haven't heard it in about 20some years.

Each song about 6-7 times, all the way through. Sorry, another case of different strokes for different folks. Tho I even listened to her earlier stuff (which she apparently disowned, I read, because she didn't get to do it her way) and that was far worse.

I can acknowledge she's probably doing what she wants with Tendaberry and letting out some real emotions (she certainly sounds genuine here), but the music is just not to my tastes. Most of the songs sound far too similar and sparse to me (you probably want to take an axe to me now, right? lol). I thought I was gonna be shaken up, but I was hardly moved.
