if MJ had to sell his catalog

With all the specualtion that he is losing money, & may have to sell his catalog to pay for his mounting bills, who do you think would purchase it? Who would have the money to buy it & own it (& maybe the Beatles catalog along with it)?

I know the Olsen Twins have that kind of money.

Imagine Oprah owning MJ's catalog? Madonna? Donald Trump?

I'd like to see Paul get the Beatles back. MJ owning this is a travesty. Wouldn't it be ironic if he had to sell and Paul got MJ'sc as well as the Beatles back.

As if that's going to happen.

MJ earns millions every year for sitting on his ass.People have no idea how muc money he has or hasn't.As you said yourself, it's speculation and there's already too much of that going on.

What other artists work does Paul own Marrk? IMO no one should own anyone else's work. It should be owned by the artist that created it.

There was this reporter from Fortune mag last night on MSNBC, and he pointed out that not only does MJ own the Beatles catalog but he owns HALF OF SONY/ATV's entire catalog!!! omfg

And that part of the beef between him and Matola had to do with Sony wanting to use his debt to the label (for Invincible and his other projects) to force MJ to sell his half of ownership.

Most likely MJ has borrowed against that catalog, but selling it would be a foolish thing to do.

Chuck Berry, Buddy holly. There's alot more but i can't remember. He gave Michael the idea, i'm sure you know that. That in itself leans to Paul owning other artists stuff.

I always here people siding with McCartney on this.Fact is Paul wasn't willing to pay what Mike was for the ATV catalogue.Who's fault is that?

Thanks for this info. This kind of stuff sickens me. MJ shouldn't own any of this stuff except his own IMO.

He also owns Mijac, which includes his own material and a lot of other artists like Sly and the Family Stone, etc. Mijac is separate from Sony/ATV.

So u'd prefer some big ass corporation to own the catalogue (as in Prince's case) than a fellow artist?
I know it may not b fair, but here's the deal: at the start of their carreers, almost every act signs away his publishing rights in order to get a record deal. It's part of the payment for the money invested. Then, these publishing rights get sold to third parties. Paul McC knows all about this, 'cause he has been buying up publishing rights 4ever. and as the well-known story goes, around the Thriller-era, HE told MJ that the real money in the music industry is to b made with publishing. So a few years later when the beatles catalogue was up for sale, Mc C had a chance to buy his rights back, but MJ out-bid him. Fair business in my eyes. So b4 u start blaming MJ, start with blaming
a) acts who sign their publishing away
b) record labels who require acts to sign their publishing away
c) paul McC for engaging in the business of buying publishing rights, bragging 2 others how profitable it is, AND beeing a crybaby when others learn his lesson
d) MJ, for at least keeping some publishing rights in the hands of an entertainer in stead of multi-billion company (if u got any blame left at that point, that is)

Oh, and doesn't MJ own the copyrights to a bunch of elvis songs, Mariah Carey songs, BoyzIIMen songs and others?

*My opinion might b slightly biased*

I love the fact that MJ is sooo underestimated. All those 'Wouldn't it be funny, when he loses everything'.

Do whatever you want, but you can't deny the facts. He knows how to do business. He isn't the one who has to sell his catalogs, because of drug addiction or alcoholism or gambling. there are so many talented guys out and they always lose their spirit or faith and then they fell apart and have to make a sell out. what a pity. at least MJ always makes a fair price so they can check in betty ford. he buys them to make money so he can live how he wants to and give damn about other opinios.

i just love envy, it is so amusing. lol
