Just like Joy Division "Heart and Soul" and New Order "Retro". How appropriate!

U2 and REM had a major image overhaul in the 90's. It gave them a whole new audience of alternative kids. The Smiths broke up before they could fade away. Ian Curtis killed himself and New Order essentially quit in '93. But The Cure sort of faded away in the 90's. Their material wasn't as consistent and their output slowed way down. I think it became easy to overlook and forget about them with so many new bands grabbing for our attention in that decade. But I think in this decade (as with Prince), that they've started to make better decisions and produce better work. Bloodflowers, The Trilogy concert, Join The Dots and remastered albums may be what it takes to put them back in the spotlight again. To an extent I agree - but like withe Prince, there was some great music even during the period where they "faded away". I think perception is alot of it. Wild Mood Swings bombed, but if it had a different track listing, sequence and single choices it might have been different. I also think the sheer giddiness of some of their pop songs - like Lovecats, Friday i'm in Love, Caterpillar, Mint Car, etc... - make it hard for some of the snobbish music press to take them seriously... REM and U2 have very little humor in their music... U2 certainly none at all... that's one of the things that makes the Cure so great, their musical BiPolarisms... The Cure is about to be BACK in a big way. The box set, the reissues, the new album... wow.

I wouldn't go that far. I think that's one of the things that's allowed them to continue being relevant. They were always relevant, but always went against the grain. In the 80's when everything was big and fake and happy, they were serious and real. In the 90's when everything became dark and tortured, they lightened up and became hilariously arty. And now in this decade with every artist looking like a model, they've gone back to basic and are using a very simple approach. But I think their sense of humor and irony in the 90's is what allowed them to flourish longer than many of their rival bands.

Who sings on it? Robert sings lead. The Blink 182 guy sings a bit on the chorus... it really sounds like a Cure song... well worth getting.

I'll have to check it out. it sorta has a More Than This vibe to it vocally and melodically, but the music is more acoustic-sounding, sorta like There is no If. surprisingly good... i was expecting maybe a few Robert background vocals or something, but it's essentially a Robert Smith song
