Nelly(Oct. 31, 2003) *Nelly is experiencing that famous line "It seemed like a good idea at first."

As the rapper's energy drink is snatched from shelves and protested nationwide, as well as overseas, that's all he could possibly be thinking.

In Chicago, across the street from Rich South High School, students won't be able to get their Pimp Juice to get their day started off just right. The store owner Andy Zayed, decided to pull the controversial energy drink off his shelves before it could be stocked, reports DailySouthtown.com.

Zayed owns the White Hen Pantry of Richton Park and he feels very strongly about the statement behind the name of the drink.

"It discriminates against sexes and genders," said Zayed. He didn't realize the drink, named after one of Nelly's songs, would be labeled Pimp Juice. "I thought it was degrading to women and I didn't want it in my business."

But Zayed is not the only one to be up in arms about the matter. Najee Ali, the head of Project Islamic Hope, an advocacy group and a neighbor of Zayed's, showed up at the White Hen Wednesday to protest the product.

"We're across the street from a high school," Ali said, pointing at Rich South's building. "Young girls who go to that school should be able to walk down the halls without thinking that boys will be posing as pimps and calling them names."

Nelly has described Pimp Juice as a metaphor for "whatever you're using to get ahead."

Ali said his black Muslim group and other influential black leaders are protesting Pimp Juice because it demeans black men and women. Ali said he planned to take the boycott nationwide, talking to other convenience store owners to try to convince them to do as Zayed did.

"This is just one spoke in the wheel of problems facing our communities," explained Ali. "And if we don't take a stand against this product, we're saying it's all right to bring these kinds of stereotypes into our community."

Pimp Juice has drawn protests in cities across the country and overseas, and is the subject of an extensive boycott in Germany.

Unfucking believable, I hate to say it, he would've made a shitload of money off of it.

I want some just bcuz people are making such a uproar about it. Otherwise I don't think I'd paid it much attention.

I would boycott it just because only a dumbass would think up such a product, and a bunch of other dumbasses actually put time and money into developing and distributing it.

Pimp Juice is one of the weirdest products I've ever seen marketed. It's like a friggin' SNL paraody come to life -- and the sad thing is, IT'S ACTUALLY REAL! It looks like antifreeze.

I can't believe Nelly had the NERVE to put this drink out. If you've ever seen Spike Lee's "Bamboozled" this so feels like it came straight out of that film. It's jaw-dropping.

Yes, Bamboozled that is a perfect example. They look at us and say what bullshit. And u KNOW it was sum corporate dumbasses that let this shit go out.

It was so funny a couple of months ago when a group of black ministers descried Nelly's Pimp Juice.

Nelly was saying it had vitamins and minerals to give playas energy, I guess so when they are partying or whatever.

And the protesting minister said something to the effect of "As black men, we need to be raising up a nation of strong black leaders not a nation of super-energized drunk pimps." !

I still laugh whenever I remember this statement.

how was that racist? i'm simply talking about how germans allowed the holocaust, but now there've managed to organize a huge, nation-wide boycott of a drink because its called "pimp juice".
