Any fans of Finley Quaye in the house?

If you haven't heard "Maverick A Strike" it's definitely worth investigating. I would call it a combination of Dancehall, soul, and electronica. He truly has a unique voice. I wasn't to impressed by his sophmore release "Vanguard", but his debut is pretty tight and something slightly different from the norm. Too bad Tricky threatend to kick his ass for claiming he was related to him, I think that kinda killed his career.

It was released in '97 but thought I'd mention it for those who might've slept on it.

Yeah I loved this guys first album but never got any others. I saw him play in one of the tents at the Virgin 99 music festival...the guy was so friggin' full of himself, but you gotta love some of those tunes man.

That cracks me up anytime I hear someone say that about another artist on a prince site.

I'll readily admit some of the beats are somewhat stale, but it's still a decent listen.

Yes indeed. In fact, I'd crack myself up if it weren't for the fact that cockey old Finley here does funk all on stage but swagger around trying to sing as good as his voice sounds on disc! Still he has dancehall roots so it comes with the turf, and as I said, you gotta love some of those tunes.

Eheheheh, true story. I went 2 see Finley Quaye a few years ago when Maverick a Strike came out. I think I was about 17/18 at the time. Anyway, me and my mate were having a beer and this guy surrounded by rastafarians and attractive women (I didnt manage to see his face) accidently knocked into us and splashed a bit of lager on my hoodie. About 10mins later this huge rastafarian guy comes up to us with a couple of cans of 'Red Stripe' and says, 'These are from Finley'. Cool huh?!

He then went on2 play a mellow, chilled set. Nothing spectacular but something you could enjoy a drink and a smoke to. At the end of gig he was signing autographs and him being a bit buzzed and me a bit drunk we had a laugh and a joke about something. So not thinking I pulled out a £5 note for him 2 sign and we had a joke about that coz he was gonna pocket it but I pinched it back off him! Then he signed my ticket instead, 'To JD, Love Finley!' eheheh.

Definetly 1 of the nicest guys in the music biz.
