Bowie, Last night Manchester [17th Nov 03]

"stand up, sit down, i dont give a fuck just have a good time" were Davids opening words to Manchester last night and thats just what we did. He played for just over 2hrs , opened with Rebel Rebel . My heads in a spin as to the exact set list but the highlights were I'm afraid of Americans, Ashes to ashes, china girl, fame, the 6 or so tracks from the last 2 albums [which were born to be plyed live!, life on mars, under pressure, Ziggy [all hail] and many more. The set was fairly basic, lighting great, graphics on the screens typically odd!. Bowie is such a confident and relaxed performer, he played with the crowd, sang tp perfection was the coolest dude on the planet last night. His band are so tight.
What a great way to see bowie for the first time. i'm now upto 12 cds and counting!, roll on christmas!!.
Prince is still number 1 though!!.

As for this evening's show itself, David was in fine voice and had a bit of fun early on by teasing the audience for the less than energetic reception. He apparently joked that he was just back from Europe, and that Manchester had a lot to live up to, before delivering a rallying cry along the lines of: "Come on Manchester, cheer up, granddad is here..." or words to that effect... I know the accuracy of that will be contested, as I've already been given several versions of what David actually said.

Anyway, the crowd soon rose to the occasion and it seems a top night was had by all. Again the 23-song setlist was identical to that of the previous two shows and here it is:

Manchester November 17th 2003

01 Rebel Rebel
02 New Killer Star
03 Reality
04 Fame
05 Cactus
06 Afraid
07 China Girl
08 The Loneliest Guy
09 The Man Who Sold The World
10 Hallo Spaceboy
11 Sunday
12 Under Pressure
13 Life On Mars?
14 Ashes To Ashes
15 The Motel
16 Loving The Alien
17 Never Get OId
18 Changes
19 I'm Afraid Of Americans
20 "Heroes"

(Encore)
21 Five Years
22 Suffragette City
23 Ziggy Stardust

The tour continues with the first of two evenings in Birmingham on Wednesday
WHAT IF THERE IS NO TOMORROW? THERE WASN'T ONE TODAY!

thanks noepie, what was really great was the fact that the songs weren't medleys, weren't dragged out jams and there wasn't ANY preaching, just a good old fashioned gig.

I was just thinking, with the great band and setlists he has lately, it might be time for another 2 disc live album. Who's with me?

Me! Definitely... but isn't the Berlin 2002 DVD also still in the pipeline? I guess that will be scraped if he considers the Reality Tour stuff good enough. And he better!
