What the hell was Lenny Kravitz doing with P. Diddy?

I mean, that just seemed like an unlikely collaboration between Pharell, P. Diddy, and L. Kravitz. For those that don't know, I hate Diddy as an "entertainer", but respect him as a businessman. I cannot stand the repetitive Neptunes either. I do, however, like Mr. Kravitz for he may be the successor to that other guy I love's throne. But Lenny just lost cool points for this song and video he did. Any thoughts? Or should I say, who saw the video?

Yes, I've seen the video a few times now. I was also quite surprised to see this collaboration. I don't like Diddy much either, but I do respect the man. I do like Lenny a lot and have been a fan of his for many years. I might be completely off base here, but I think that Lenny has involved himself with these guys simply to get himself out there and seen by his own people and the hip-hop crowd. Lenny has never been too well liked (musically) by his people and perhaps this is a way to give him more exposure. I just hope that his new album retains his sound and he doesn't try to do hip-hop. That would be whack IMO. I also think that Lenny and P. Diddy are pals and probably run into each other quite a lot at fashion shows etc. twocents

Well, I think that's kind of obvious, but I'll try to make it clearer. I believe he is attempting to reach african americans or blacks as some prefer to be called. As I said in my previous post, I could be way off the mark, but this is my opinion. I've been to several of Lenny's concerts over the years and the crowd has always been predominantly white, unlike P.Diddy or Pharrel who's crowds are predominantly people of colour.

I agree with you, kisscamille.Lenny has always been frustrated and disappointed that more Blacks don't attend his concerts or buy his CDs.I remember he was discussing this in an interview. So,the P.Diddy collaboration could be a calculated attempt to expand his audience, who knows. It's too bad that the song sucks though lol

I was also disappointed in Lenny when I saw this video.

I'm used to Diddy objectifying women, but I really didn't want to see Lenny around all those shakin' asses while Diddy issued shake commands to those video hoes.

C'mon Lenny! Are you the same man that sang "I'm Gonna STand by My Woman now" ?! You are so above that.

Lenny WAS so above that. Remember his soulful rendition of "It aint over 'til it's over"? That's light years away now...and we're left with the remnants of a decent artist..who's now a total sell-out. It's obvious that he's trying to put himself back on the map with this P-diddy/Neptunes collaboration, and it might work, but for all the wrong reasons. Lenny used to be a great, respectable artist, but all his cliched Hendrix-esque rockstar pretentions and recent womanising have really tainted his credibility. Lenny's always had an identity crisis and has worn his influences on his sleeve - he's really just the sum of those influences..and maybe mimicking his mentors was what he did best..now he just sucks, and this new track confirms it!

PLEASE! It was only a matter of time before ONE no-talent-song-stealing-chameleon met up with another one and said "damn we sure could make some COIN up in this bitch, did you bring your sample collection, or shall we my beatles records?"

BOTH of them are musical whores. Hate em both. No offense to those of you who DO love that sort of entirely-derivative, NO shred of creativity beyond giving people what they want, and you KNOW they want it because it was already a HIT for SOMEBODY ELSE.

AUGH.

Get me stopped. I'm already started.

I neva knew that he's a Jewish? Intersting!

I personaly don't care 4 him at all. He's talented alright, but he's a big ass riffer,,,he doesn't have a strong sense of individuality, much like Alicia Keys who got the talent but mo' of a riffer too. The only song that I dig from him is "Mr.Cab Driver"!

Plus, he comes across as phony in his interviews talking about that spiritual bullshit and what not(Thats so trendy).

Personally, I don't see why people are acting so surprised. Someone as pretentious as Sting collaborated with Puffy, so this really isn't far-fetched.
