I had the opportunity to see a real intimate Parliament show last year, but I didn't think I could afford it at the time.

apparently, George and his crew did a 6 hour set with no intermission. I heard it was totally funky, and I kick myself daily.

That, and I won some tickets to a "Close Encounters" thing, where only 600 people watch a big name act for free, but they don't know who they're going to see. I foolishly thought it was on a Tuesday, but it was on Monday, and I missed it. I later found out it was Sam Roberts.

IstenSzek ~ here is a true story for you. WAY back in the day (around 1965 ~ 68) some friends and I had a little coffee shop located under a bar. You had to crawl down these rickety stairs and everything was very dark and atmospheric. It was called The Cellar and we had those drippy candles on the tables and cool coffee drinks. We would book acts from all over and Joni was there several times. For real!!! She was married to Chuck Mitchell who was from our area and she was born not too far from Michigan. She would play The Cellar one night and a club in Detroit (I believe it was called the Checkmate) on the next. When she started to get air play she did a final concert in a big auditorium in our town and headed for California saying she would never be back! Friends of mine who were like the managers of the Cellar have the original tape recordings of her playing on a stool with her guitar but they won't play them for anybody ~ they claim to have them locked in a vault somewhere.

Oh 'Nana ~ they are incredible live. I took my very yourng niece to see them ( I think she was 9 and it was her very first concert). We were sitting there stunned and the guys in front of me passed a joint back to us. I had to politely decline (oh, the agony) because I didn't want to be a bad influence on my niece. But the concert was so great it didn't matter!!!

She toured a couple years ago with Van Morrison and Bob Dylan. I would have loved to see that but I think Van Morrison only did the California part of the tour. She was a very cool lady even back then.

i had tickets to see an inxs show in phillyfor their 'elegantly wasted' tour...i got sick 2 nights earlier at a new jersey prince jam of the year tour (which i had already seen in philly). came down with the flu and couldn't see inxs. i gave those tickets away so they wouldn't be wasted. then michael hutchence died.

i regret going to the prince show and not being able to see the inxs show. shoot, the prince show was just a hits tour anyway!
