I ADORE Cyndi (I ever kissed her when I saw her perform at Space nightclub in Detroit)...but I refuse to buy the new album.
I have a problem with once-popular rock stars trying to make a buck by singing music that our parents like. It's just so...sellout and UN rock-n-roll. If an artist is STILL relevant and puts his or her own spin on the material...GREAT! There have been some EXCELLENT examples of this, such as Bowie's "Pin Ups," Erasure's "Other People's Songs," Guns N Roses' "The Spaghetti Incident." But Cyndi's release and the new one from Rod Stewart is an unabashed attempt to appeal to the 'Easy Listening' crowd...and that just rubs me the wrong way. | |
