Britney's Diane Sawyer interview

Wow, Diane got away with a lot of questions that I thought Britney would not discuss. Some of the highlights for me were:
-- She admitted she thinks her voice is just "OK" and she would love to have a voice like Christina or Whitney.
-- When asked if she cheated on Justin (since she has stated she only ever slept with him), she said that accusation 'was not technically correct, but not technically incorrect either'. Umm, ok.
-- She also got flustered when talking about her song about masturbation (which she seemed to bring up herself). She claimed that act is something sacred, and should be talked about, but then got herself confused when Diane asked her a follow up question.
-- Britney tried to explain how she doesn't lip synch. I'm tired of this rationalization, just tell the truth! You're dancing your ass off at a live show and would be out of breath trying to sing too. Honestly, I don't mind if people lip synch in concert, as long as they are only doing it to the dance numbers.

All in all, good interview (plus Diane made her cry) eek
I do NOT think she is clueless that her actions/image affect young children, but I agree with her, they are not her responsibility. And, it's true that Christina poses more provacatively, but she doesn't get nearly the amount of shit that Britney does.

Basically, the girl only has a 9th grade education, but MUST know what she's doing to get this far.. She plays the innocent card WAY too much. I think she is just conflicted with what she wants to do (sexually, etc.) and what she thinks she should do (her conservative upbringing).

What did Diane say that made her cry? And how did Britney react to it (what did she say?)

Diane just said to her that she's had a tough year: illness in the family (?), parents splitting up, break up with Justin.. and out of the blue, Britney started tearing up.. it surprised even HER, as she said "oh my lord" or something, and fanned her face. She also said (to herself) "Strong Britney". Then she really broke down, and said "Ew" (her favorite word last night btw), and said "I'm really embarassed, can we stop for a minute"

I think the difference between Britney and Christina is that britney plays innocent and sweet and then comes out with a bunch of sex stuff. I think she rides the fence too much.

I don't get why she is so hyped up.

I don't quite get the hype either, but I am sucked in, i'll admit it. She has a hot body, and her "on the fence" behavior kind of makes her interesting. She's going through her adolescence in the public eye.. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. She does have Star Power though.. btw, her younger sister is much cuter than Britney.. I wonder if she will try to sing as well. She apparently has some show on Nickelodeon now. shrug

That pretty much it, her sex appeal.

Although, I hate to admit it, her new CD is something pretty special for her... I was pleasently surprised by how fun that album is.

It's sad that she only has a 9th garde education. I guess that explains the majority of her public brain farts.

the interview was interesting

but, how much of it was staged?

britney acts more like a 14 year old

than she does a twenty something

probably. the networks have been re-running a lot of their recent tabloidy interview specials a lot lately (think MJ, Whitney)... sometimes on VH1.

Britney annoys me sometimes, but at the same time I feel for her.

She has limited talent, sells primarily based on youthful T&A and may seem a bit...er... "less than sophisticated" at times. But how is that different from 80% of the new starlettes we see?

If I were a young, cute, southern blond chick with limited talent, but a love to perform, an obvious pop appeal and a truckload of ambition, I'd work what I had too. I ain't mad at her a bit.

...But I do think she's going to need some awesome new producers and management that's smart enough to redefine her public image if she expects to stick around for a while. She might take a clue from her idol, Janet, who was in a similar sinking boat until she met Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis in 1986.

I think her fence-riding is NOT a bad thing. Look at Prince. Sheeyit, he's singing Jack U Off and head and Sister, and then The Cross, Temptation, The Ladder. Whatever. We ALL are conflicted on what we say and do.

And if I had an ass like that, i'd DAMN SHO pose for Esquire mag too.

Britney is marketed on her looks alone and she is doing all these publicity stunts with Madonna and Christina etc. etc.

If she wants 2 stay as a top act like Janet etc. she will need 2 compete on something other than her looks, otherwise she will b replaced by the next new pop star.
She will always need 2 have a distinctive style cuz she's just copying everyone else at the moment and wearing less and less 2 appeal 2 the 18-34 male demographic.

No, but I am excited to hear she's working with producers like R. Kelly and Moby.

Thats interesting, because I bet it ain't these guys who are buying her stuff. It's probably 10- to 15-year-old girls.

She can't sing too well, but she can dance her azz off. And for that and her work ethic I give her props.

For some reason I got a soft spot in my heart for her, probably cuz I think people are overly critical of her.

Oh, Britney. ADMIT to lip-synching. We ALL know that you are doing it.

And, yes, it is your looks (and Clear Channel promotion) that has gotten you to the top of the charts, certainly not your singing ability (at least she admits that, it seems).

i wouldn't chalk it up to Clear Channel... she's only good for about 2 radio hits per album. if they were in on it, all 4 singles from each album would get airplay.
