He was bused with other children acrossd town to the valley on a daily basis to more of an upper class school due to over crowded schools... he 's from the streets ... I wouldn't give him props if he didn't deserve it. Cube went to Washington Prep High School in South L.A. I don't remember if he graduated or not, but the boy lives in Calabasas now (which is a multi-million dollar, upper class predominately white city). Last time I checked, Calabasas wasn't Compton. If he's all about maintaining his "gangsta" image, why doesn't he raise hell up in Calabasas? Why continually f**k up the image and property values of Black Angelenos who are living in the real areas he's rapping about? Yeah, he may have arose from the "'hood," but he's still perpetuating this stupid a** gangsta image. Name anything productive that came from the crip and blood madness other than a few, scarce individuals with corporate recording contracts and white-backed subsidary labels. Ice Cube was with the Nation of Islam for a minute, then he went right back into the gangsta ish when the record sales started slumping. Gangsta-ism has never been cool. I'm from Los Angeles and believe me, Crips and Bloods were NEVER COOL to me.
When your relative is lying in the street with blood draining from his corpse, that's not cool. When someone is selling crack outside of your house to your kids, that's not cool. When you're scared to walk outside the house or have your kids play, that's not cool. When black men (and women) continually die in the streets and skip school to gangbang, die and be another statistic, that's not cool...and never will be. Keepin' it real at who's expense? . If you really ever listened to Ice Cube you would know he speaks about more than just gangsterism or him being one. The real gangsters are the ones we have supposedly voted into office, our patriotic government. For all we know these gangsters may have pulled gangster manuevers to gain there power without our popular votes. You know the Bush's in particular may have caused more deaths single handedly while in power than any crip or blood or latino gang member, whom you seem to down talk in your post, ever did as one gangster. There are reasons why gangs are formed or poverty exists in our country. Our same President who loves his land so dearly has shown that saving other countries is far more important than saving WATTS or Compton or any ghetto in the US. His papa, was the head of the CIA around the time the crack hit the streets in LA and if you think the gangs created it you should do a little bit of research and see the CIA was blamed directly for that disgusting drug killing so many of us off starting in the 80's and still to this day. Hello can you say population control. Now that's more gangsterish than even the amounts of deaths the mafia or hells angel "gangs" have ever caused. I have seen more than a few of my friends pass on at very young ages as a direct result of rival street gangbangers. People should sometimes stop only looking through their own eyes and put themselves in others shoes. What I mean by this is if you are a youngster growing up in the ghetto are you going to relate more with the West Side Connection or Duran Duran. I grew up in the "ghetto" or the hood, whatever you want to call it,and I DON'T relate with West Side Connection or any of these other gangsta, thuggish rappers. and your point is what? I was responding to what he said, which I have a right to do!And now you're giving me an excuse to get started on a rant...I'm sick of people acting like young black people, whether we grew up in the hood or not are all supposed to be the same. We don't all have to like rap, wear Roca Wear or "relate" to some rapper. I grew up in the hood. I'm not black or latino I am however brown. I wear baggy pants and wear a hat to the side . I dig the WSC and bump all there old tunes. I am a big fan of Ice Cube. He also acted in, wrote and produced the successful 'Friday' films and has appeared in 'mainstream' films like 'Three Kings'. Cube also used samples of Roger and Zapp's songs in his music so that makes him even better.
I have the 1st Westside Connection album & its OK but I'd prefer Cube 2 release a solo album instead. I heard Cube's gonna work with Dr Dre again. I'd like 2 see a new version of NWA, with Snoop replacing the late Eazy E. Cube was also excellent in 'Boyz N The Hood'. | |
