Who needs who? Madonna or Britney

So, who needs who? In this new generation (where teens always buy the most music), is Madonna helping Britney or Britney helping Madonna? How?

I wonder, would Prince do well to work the same strategy (either to help others, himself, or both)?

Prince shouldn't try this kind of a gimick but I would write more songs for other artists.

Madonna is definately helping Britney. So far, it doesn't seem to be helping Madonna at all. I mean, she is just part of the song (and what an average song it is) and its not like Madonna's AL is flying off the sheleves as a result. In fact, if Madonna really thought the song was a hit, you know they would re-release AL with this song (better yet, it won't even appear on her new AL remix EP). So Britney benefits from this since it certaintly helped people become interested in her music again. The song alone isn't that great and might not have gotten any attention if it was just Britney.

i think a little bit of both, but it probably helps Britney more than Mo. I for one, will buy a Britney album for the first time ever because Mo is on it. But I don't necessarily see that Mo's presence will lead other people to go seek out, say American Life. Who knows...

But people who need people are the loneliest people in the world. sad

Anyway, I think this might be Madonna's way of passing the torch (as someone said in another thread). blowup "You go, girl!"

P.S. I don't own a Britney album, but she is fun to watch. hmmm

it never has before, when he hooked up with Eve, Sheryl Crow, Gwen Stefani, or when he's associated himself with Norah Jones and Alicia Keyes.

it just doesn't click with Prince. he either needs a protege to mould or to take some washed-up has-been under his wing, so that nobody onstage or on the record outshines him.

I think Madonna is just doing her 5 year shock moment.. and Britney is sooo dumb she is going alone with it. I think she has NO clue.. or no more options???

could u imagine if in 1985 Madonna was helping/making out with a OLD LADY for Public Relations??

lol?

Madonna now adays reminds me of a bad episode of like Ricki Lake or Jenny Jones.. "Please make my mommy stop acting/dressing sexy" and then they show these mid 40's sluts dressed like hookers .. in the back .. while there 12 year daughter is on stage crying begging the host to help her talk to her mom

BRITNEY benefits more from the duet than Madonna. It gives her "diva" credibility, and operates as the gimmick to sell the new album. On Britney's last album, "I'm a slave 4 u" came out when the Neptunes were in their prime, and that was a good enough reason for people to like the single. Now what? Why not drag in Madonna herself, to boost sales points? And it's not as if Madonna had anything better to do. "American Life" was a preachy, commercial flop. So it was time for Maddy to work with some young meat, to lure back the teenage demographic. Basically the duet was a desperate attempt for both blondes to renew their popularity. And what a mediocre song it is. Generic, disposable pop, psuedo-theatrics in the video clip, allusions to the calculated smooch that barely happened. Lameness abounds.
