James Brown, Sly Stone, and George Clinton

Takes a good front man to command a large band.

morris is pretty lame and u get sick of him after 2 songs.

bot i LOVE morris...

I think Morrison was a great performer, songwriter and singer. LA Woman is one of the best albums ever made in my opinion. His voice sounds so raw on La Woman, i don't get sick of him after hearing 2 songs.

He ranks up next to Jimi Hendrix, both legends.

No one has yet mentioned Alice Cooper, one of the most entertaining performers ever, surely. Otherwise it just has to be Mick Jagger. I'm seeing David Lee Roth on Tuesday so I can compare him with these two. Paul Rodgers (Free & Bad Company) is also great (although his voice is more of an asset than his stage act.) Jimi Hendrix is more than a mere frontman, but I do love listening to him chat to his audiences

I'm not a great fan of the music, but Freddie Mercury has got to be in the top five frontmen of all time. It's all subjective, I mean I would place him in the top spot, but no-one could seriously deny him a top five placing.

Well damn. There goes my answer. lol

Yeah, and I wasn't counting anybody who is a "solo" artist, like David Bowie. P would definitely be up there with all the others.

Exactly. The front man (or woman), can take a band and blast it into every car radio and home cd collection! Might I add Tina Turner too?

She kicked ass frontin' Ike & Tina Turner... went solo.

Beyonce kicked ass frontin' Destiny's Child... went solo.

Diana Ross kicked ass frontin' The Supremes... went solo.

Michael Jackson kicked ass frontin' The Jacksons... went solo.

Sting kicked ass frontin' The Police... went solo.

The list goes on and on... nobody stays together once they're singled out for greatness... confused

I admire the ones who stay with the band... I admire the band effort!
