How Come There's No Promotion For "I'm So Damn Happy"?

This sucks, man!

Its been 5 yrs since Aretha made an album(A Rose Is Still A Rose) and when we finaly get to her a new one. We don't see no promotional waves nor nothing.

DJs don't speak about it too, like it doesn't excist.

Wassup? Why the hold? sad

Ain´t that typical 4 soul legends in general?
Seems like none of them old school cats get´s
promotion unless it´s a compilation with their old
hits. Many of them stars from yesterday don´t even
get a recorddeal these days.I remember hearing an
interview with the Ohio Players some years ago.
They´re out there playing but they can´t get new
music out.

Manki has a good point. After years of everyone wanting it, Al Green is finally making an R&B album again. The only problem is that it is one an indie label and as far as I can tell no one cares. Very surprising.

Isn't Aretha on Arista? That is typical of them. They sure like signing R&B acts but don't promote them half as much as acts like Pink and Avril, the new hot (white?) things!

BTW, I don't own the CD but just judging by the cover, a nice face shoot in a white background, it really doesn't even look like a new album. I mean, the cover seems so old fashioned that I think to most consumers it looks like yet another greatest hits/"collection" album from a woman that has to have over a dozen of them out there (and I'm sure most of them are not her fault)! Maybe that is a stupid thing to say but still. When I saw it at first I was kind of surprised that it was her new album. Not saying that she should be wearing a dumb hat like Pink or standing in the middle of a blurred out street like Avril but you have to consider these things.

Aretha appeared on 'Oprah' recently, and she sang one of her new songs. And in my area,I've heard the first single "The Only Thng Missing" on a few radio stations. She's gonna go on tour in 2004 (her final tour),so hopefully the album will get a major boost.

But yeah,it's a shame that Old School artists don't get the same type of promotion that newer acts receive. This year,Earth Wind and Fire released a great CD 'The Promise',but because they're not young foul-mouth rappers, the radio stations ignored it sad

With very few exceptions popular music is a young person's game. There is just as much age discrimination in the music industry as anywhere else, if not more so. Aretha is in her 60s now, if I'm not mistaken; even some artists young enough to be her offspring don't get the marketing that the youth in entertainment do. It's certainly not fair, but that's the way the game is played.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.
