"We Are The World Part 2"

Has anyone else heard news about this project? I read from the Floetry.net website that recording for this song will begin Feb. 6 in Los Angeles prior to the 2004 Grammys. The star-studded sequel to the 80s anthem will be executive produced by Quincy Jones and will include such contemporary stars as Timbaland, Eric Clapton, Floetry, Kiley Dean, Angie Stone, Joss Stone etc. I wonder if Michael Jackson will be on-board again.

What's your thoughts? Pump it or dump it?

Dump it.

Personally, I believe that "We Are The World" was a one-time affair where it reached its peak and zenith at the same moment. To make a part 2 cheapens the impact of the initial work and makes it seem like some shoddy corporate enterprise. We've all seen what happened to Woodstock once corporations got a hold of it in the 90s. Woodstock was good in the 60s and so was "We Are The World." If they want to make a new song about AIDS, they should write it from scratch so it'll be memorable to this generation! Just my thoughts.

To me, WATW was a cheap rip-off anyway. It was a rather ridiculous, poor-man's version of the "Band-Aid" project put together by Bob Geldof. I'm not saying the intent wasn't noble, just that it lacked any originality (and the song was rather lame, especially compared to Band-Aid's "Do They Know Its Christmas"). It doesn't really surprise me that the music industry is trying to recycle WATW, since they do that with everything else!

i was against it when i heard that Justin Timberlake was gonna write it. Damn fucker.

Anyway, i think Michael Jackson's "What More Can I Give" is good enough. MJ aint gonna b in it because he needs or is gonna want 2 own or promote his own right?

wouldn't this be like We Are The World part 18 or something?

we've already had That's What Friends Are For, and that new MJ What More Can I Give, and that one back in late '01/early '02 with all the stars in the video unwrapping their heads with trendy slogans on it...

Ever since Bono started actually getting involved with campaigns for less-expensive HIV medicine and Drop The Debt, these benefit singles looked corny and irrelevant.

"Do They Know It's Christmas?", "We Are The World" and "Tears Are Not Enough" seemed naive enough in 1985, didn't they?

Why would Michael Jackson be involved - it's to RAISE funds, people!

Fuck up and find out MJ owes Africa part of his Beatles catalog and a ferris wheel.
