The Source Awards Last night, I watched as hip-hop got flushed down the toilet. I was very, very disappointed at what is considered hip-hop today.

Well on a positive note:
I like how the old schoolers were there to send a message to the new school artist to stop fucking up what they created. I also thought the DMC speech on Jam Master Jay was very touching. And last, at least they put up some cash for some real props on the stage for the performers this year.

It was really quite depressing...and boring. The highlight for me was seeing Pharrell sporting his gold fronts!!! Too Hard!!!

I'll say this: If any of you have a chance to see Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam (broadway), go see it. I went to hear Russell Simmons talk about Hip Hop and he really let me see a different said to the game. Bottomline, he said Poor people have the mic right now, and you are going hear want poor people want to talk about, from the trailer to the ghetto, its their turn. He said he would like to hear another Chuck D but that even Chuck D, on the first album, was more gangsta than militant and grew to have the views he shared with Public Enemy. He was saying that as the rappers grow up, what they have to talk about will change just like with anyone.
It was interesting and I'm not doing him justice but I respect the "game" of Hip Hop. Just like Sanaan said in Brown Sugar..."When did you first fall in love with Hip Hop?"

I agree with what your saying but Brown Suga was wackest movie - I mean their intentions were good but the writing sucked and Taye Diggs should never act like he's down ever again!!!
for my comic releif for the day!

My friend and I tried our best to stomach about 10 minutes of it, but when they started to praise Nelly for his humanitarian efforts (::clears throat:: Pimp Juice, anyone?), we quickly sought refuge in the kitchen and ate some pop tarts! LOL! Watching the Source Awards on television is like witnessing an unorganized high school assembly. ..."Nah'mean" :-X [This message was edited Wed Nov 12 12:45:51 PST 2003 by JANFAN4L]
