WILDSTYLE This probably in the wrong forum, but somehow I wanted 2 relate it 2 the music forum, anyways how many people seen the legendary break dance movie wildstyle? If so how in the world can I find it, I been looking 4 it 4 a while now, I tried to rent it at blockbuster video and I was pooped cuz they didn't have it. I've always seen clips of the movie and always heard people talking about it, but I never seen it this ticks me off. ... Anyways... what's y'all take on this film if you've seen it? Is it really the best break dance movie of all time?

"Wild Style" is not a movie solely about b-boying (breakdancing) like the movie "Breakin'," but it does include b-boying. The b-boy footage from Wild Style is real, not choreographed or corporate like Breakin' (a film which capitalized on the art and left the true pioneers of the artform voiceless). It's actually a documentary/movie. There's scripted elements (such as the dialogue and the loosely-assembled plot), but the film is praised for its real, unscripted, authentic elements such as all the hip hop scenes, Grandmaster Flash DJing, the unpaid real hip hoppers that were attending the shows, battles, b-boy competitions, graffiti artists, etc. "Wild Style" is an exciting social document that captured the hip hop culture blossoming out of New York City in its raw essence. Blondie's cool in the movie, too, but the film is primarily praised for its capturing of hip hop. This is one of my favorite hip hop movies. It crystallizes the submerging art-form of hip hop in its budding stages. Wild Style has a myriad of classic scenes. Some of my favorites in the movie are when Busy Bee and the Fantastic Romantic 5 rap at the Dixie, the breakdance/Grandmaster Flash DJ scene, Grandmaster Caz at the amphitheater, a young Crazy Leggs and the Rock Steady Crew b-boyin' (breakin') to Caz's flows, among others. The movie is thick with nostalgia, history, and most of all hip-hop. This video is manna for hip-hop purists and junkies alike. If you want to see hip-hop in its pure and untainted state, you must see "Wild Style." It's required viewing for anyone who dares to call themselves a "hip-hop head." If you're looking for the film, I suggest eBay, amazon.com, or a local video store. Call around different video stores in your area. I'm sure they'll have it. Good luck.

I have the DVD and it's pretty good, but I still prefer 'Beat Street'.

Man, Beat Street needs its own thread!
My favorite scene in Wild Style is with Double Trouble (Rodney Cee & K.K. Rockwell from Funky Four + 1) performing "Stoop Rap". It is featured on the soundtrack too! Rhino Entertainment reissued the soundtrack and movie in 1997, so you should be able to hunt down a CD and VHS.

I have the video version released by Rhino. Does any know if the DVD includes any bonus material? Whoever's in charge of the DVD re-release of Wild Style should hunt down the filmmakers and gather up all the hours of material that didn't make it in the final edit. I would love to see that stuff.

Absolutely! I love me some "Beat Street".I have it on video, but I really wish they would put it on DVD.Maybe add some bonus footage and documentary. And the soundtrack desperately needs to be reissued on CD.I've looked everywhere for it,but I'm not sure it's even on CD yet.Remember the song "Beat Street Strut" by Juicy? That was my jam!
