They really are. I can't wait for their new joint to come out. Anyways this thread is all about Jay Kay & the Crew.

I love Jamiroquai and lately,I've been listening to their music like crazy. The 'Traveling Without Moving' CD has been in my CD player for several weeks now. These guys are one of the few bands still making great funk music these days.I love the retro feel of their music,it sounds like the past but still fresh and vital at the same time.

Can't wait for the new CD.Here is what we know so far...

***The working title of the new CD is 'Midnight Sun'

***Confirmed song titles include "Shoot The Moon","Cannabliss" and "Black Devil Wife"

***Tentative release date is spring 2004

***The band has a new keyboardist,Matt Johnson, who discussed the new CD in a recent interview..."It will be more live instruments, less computers. Also,I think the sound will be more raw".

***In the November 2003 issue of Tense magazine,Jay Kay says that once the album is completed,he will head to Los Angeles, hand some tracks out to influential people and see what happens ("Toby's gone,Nick's gone, and now it's time for a change",he says).Apparently, this means that they're gonna take a more aggressive approach to promoting and marketing this new CD.

They're OK-ish. I did like Emergency on Planet Earth but after that it was all pretty samey. Its easy 2 dislike Jay Kay but I think he's quite a nice guy really.

Their last three albums are...Great!

Honestly, I don't understand why people dog Jamiroquai. In my opinion, they've gotten better over time. And yeah, they probably are the last great funk band.

Anybody who has ever seen this band live and knows about Funk would laugh at this thread. There are hundreds of greater funk bands who are still around.

OK, so maybe I exaggerrated a bit on the comment, but what I meant was they were the last band to carry on the tradition of the golden age of Funk. Sure, you still the old-school cats still working it like EWF, P-Funk, James Brown and so on. But those guys can only hit us with the groove for so long. So I thought of Jamiroquai being the last group to entertain us with the grooves. You may not agree with my comment and that's fine, it don't hurt me. If you do agree then you know what I'm talking about.

The way I see it, funk, as influential as it is, is not a popular genre now yet it's blood runs thru the veins of Hip-Hop, House, some Alternative Rock and other forms of dance music. I haven't seen many folks in my generation try and do something as creative as P-Funk, Con Funk Shun, Cameo, etc.

I'd like for someone to tell me who's funkier than Jamiroquai? And I wasn't just saying that they were the last funk band, but the last GREAT funk band. But I'd like the naysayers to tell me who's better.

NWF,what are your favorite Jamiroquai jams? Currently,I can't seem to get the song "Where Do We Go From Here" (1999) outta my head. These days,if you wanna hear a song THAT funky, you usually have to pull out your old 70s records...lol...

Ah yes, I love Jamiroquai. They truly know how to get funky. I've been a fan since age 5. Travelling Without Moving was the second album I ever bought, after Michael Jackson's Bad at age 3. I also saw Jamiroquai do a promo gig at a record store on the A Funk Odyssey tour...

Even their slow jams are superb."Everyday" from the 'Traveling Without Moving' CD is one of the sexiest songs of all-time,with that grinding bass and the heavenly strings.Wow!

And lets' not forget these songs...

"Falling" (1999)
"Butterfly" (1999)
"Picture Of My Life" (2001)
"Corner Of The Earth" (2001)

There are many, they were just not lucky enough to get signed to Sony. In Germany alone, there is a great number of Funk Bands that easily kick Jamiroquais ass. The band of Rad. (Prince`s new keyboarder) has been around since 12 years and they truly rock. Many bands in London got JK in the pocket. In LA there are the Polyester Players, they sound as funky as the Ohio Players.

I`m not saying that JK sucks. But I think you give the guys too much credit here.

And did you ever see them live? On stage they are terrible.

Really? I thought Synkronized was a lil' weaker than the other albums. I liked it, nevertheless, but it wasn't strong as the other ones.

Anyways, my favorite Jamiroquai tracks are: Space Cowboy, that unfinished song at the end of Picture of My Life, High Times, Falling, Supersonic, Light Years, Virtual Insanity, Mr. Moon(the best track off "Cowboy",IMO), You Give Me Something, Blow Your Mind, Cosmic Girl, Butterfly, Just Another Story, When You Gonna Learn, Love Fooloshophy, Use The Force, Too Young To Die, Half The Man, Everyday, Destitute Illusion, Main Vein, Drifting Along, Music of the Mind, and perhaps their greatest song yet, Everybody's Going To The Moon. smile

Jamiroquai is a good band that at times has made some great music. They seemed to have lost their way somewhat with their last three efforts. The first two were better as a whole. "ROTSC" is one of my favorite albums ever.

I can see why true funk fans look down on this band. But they're not a funk band, they're more of a disco/soul band.

There are LOTs of every type of band around right now - Funk, Techno, House, Jazz, Acid-Jazz, New Romantics, Electro, Disco - everything!

It's just that the mainstream media does not give them airtime and promotion.

All music forms are alive and kicking, just most of them are not in the spotlight smile
