Kelis - Overrated?? ( MAYBE THIS HAS BEEN COVERED, I DIDN"T CHECK TO SEE IF IT HAD SO...)
It seems to me that there are many r&b/soul singers who are just as talented and some even more so, so what's all the hype about? I can admit to having that "Milkshake" song stuck in my head, but I still don't understand the apeal of such an elementary song. Her voice (to me) is mediocre at best, so what is it?? I get the whole "looks" thing, but she's not the best looking woman either(That's not to say I think she's unattractive). Okay she's attractive, but not in a pretty or beautiful way (TO ME). I think She's cute(the furthest I would go in the looks department). I do admire her drive/ambition in getting to where she is , but again I ask- WHAT IS IT? Can anyone offer any insight? Imperially Yours,

I'm one of those people that likes Kelis and while I haven't gotten any of her CDs yet (keyword: yet) but I don't thnk she is the best thing ever. I doubt that anyone else would list her as their favorite artist but I can understand that a lot of people dig her because she is kind of cool.

I could teach u,but I'd have 2 charge... While I tend to agree, I hear about her alot. From friends, co-workers, etc. My sister (for her B-daY) is begging me to take her to a show she's doing with 112. I'll probably try and get her tickets, but I just don't get it. I definitely don't think she's run of the mill, but the way my sis and others go on you'd think she was setting a whole new frontier for music. Finoa Apple is not run of the mill Raheem DeVaughn is not run of the mill, you see what I mean. I guess I just don't get why some people get more hype than other. Take for instance when Vivian Green (soul/neo soul artist) came out she seemed to make a splash with "Emotional Roller Coaster", but after it died down what more did you hear and she's pretty good (better than Kelis in my eyes-vocally). Maybe it's that I sing. Who knows? Imperially Yours,

I get what your saying but she is a talented writer
I got her kalidescope album - Her style is refreshingly different in a very real fuck it type of way!- I think that's why people are so drawn to her- I love people who aren't afraid to stray from the main stream and be their own person - Kelis rocks!
