Does Anybody Remember Sugerhill Gang's The Squence?
The group that Angie Stone came from,,,man, I was BLASTING that greatest hits CD to the fullest. Who could 4get their "Funky Sound (Tear the Roof Off)", "Funk U Up", "I Don't Need No Love" and "Simon Says". They paved the way to Salt N' Pepa, TLC, SWV and all the female-hip hop groups 2day. Weird thang is I neva heard Angie Stone talking about this, perhaps she wants to CLOSE that chapter off her life 4 good, who knows?

Of course I remember these groups! As you say, they paved the way! Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I don't REMEMBER them, as I was born in 1980, but I did research the recordings of Sugar Hill and found that I really enjoyed Sequence.
When Erykah Badu did a remix of "Love of My Life" based on The Sequence's "Funk You Up", one of her guests was Angie Stone, so I doubt 'Angie B' has shunned this era, but she's obviously on some other ish now.

Yeah but they were fun 4 that time since hip-hop wasn't that solid in the early days.

Yep! Don't remember the music so much, but if someone were to say that Salt & Pepa got it started for the ladies, I'd be quick to say Sequence did it first.
