Stevie Wonder- Free

What a great song! I just bought the "Characters" album recently, and "Free" has stood out to be the best song other than the sublime "My Eyes Don't Cry." I love the instrumentation- that harpsicord (or rather synth harpsicord) just tugs at me. The way the song builds and incorporates gospel while Stevie's singing grows more soulful just sends me over the edge!

Who else likes this one?

Eh, that songs aiiight, but there are better tracks on that album, IMO. Remember that track Stevie did with MJ, "Get It"? or what about "My Eyes Don't Cry" or the big hit off that album, "Skeletons"?

I'll have to take this CD out and play it again.Usually, when I listen to Stevie,I play only his 70s albums. But from what I can recall,'Characters' is a very good album. The first song "You Will Know" has always moved me tremendously.

"Get It" and "Skeletons" are decent, but seem trapped in the time, in my opinion. "My Eyes Don't Cry" is my favorite song that I've heard by Stevie Wonder. Both that and "Free" just seem timeless to me.

How do you know this info? I also heard that "My Eyes Don't Cry" was from the "Songs in the Key of Life" era. What other songs from "Characters" are older?
