New R&B radio station in Chicago. Yay!!! There is this new station in Chicago that used to be all gospel. I hate that gospel on the radio seems to be dying here, but...this station is the bomb. No radio personalities, no commercials...for now. They play new R&B but mostly old stuff but the kicker is, they play a lot of the stuff that you just don't hear on the radio all the time. Yesterday, they played Patrice Rushen's Givin' It Up is Givin' Up. That song is so blissful!! I thought I was gonna cry. It's good to not have to spin on Friday or Saturday nights when I'm playing cards. I'm happy about it and thought I would share it with you guys.

Don't get all excited, boo!
This so-called ol' school thingy is an "attracter" lol soon they will go with the flow and play new music on heavy rotation. Same bullshit happend awhile ago in some of Harlem's New RnB radio stations. Hope I'm wrong tho! However, the Jazz/quite storm radio stations in Chi-Town are the shit. They're the TRUE ol'schoolers [This message was edited Fri Oct 31 10:01:09 PST 2003 by Harlepolis]

I know, Harle. Soon, it will suck but right now, I am loving it!!! As far as our jazz/quiet storm stations, they are sucky except for Sunday nights where there is no better place to be. They are owned by Clear Channel. This so-called ol' school thingy is an "attracter" lol soon they will go with the flow and play new music on heavy rotation. I don't understand attractors. Why do stations feel the need to lure people in with good music, only to give us crap when we're all nice and hooked? Don't they know we'll just quit listening and go elsewhere? Wouldn't it make more sense for them to just keep attracting? I remember when MTV2 pulled this crap a couple of years ago, when it first started - they played the BEST stuff, videos you'd never have seen otherwise, then when it got popular it just went to Poopsville like regular MTV. What gives???
At work, they play an old skool soul station that is okay sometimes, but they play like the same 10 songs OVER AND OVER. I love "Do Me, Baby", but I swear I hear it at least twice a night and it's getting a little tired. What's the point in having the same rotation on a classics station? There's so much from which to choose! IT MAKES NO SENSE. Sigh.

That must be V103 you're talking about, Anx. They play the same ten songs over and over and you know what? They also started off only playing music with no commercials. Needless to say, I don't listen to them anymore. MTV2 was a huge fucking disappointment. I remember that night when they played all the videos that had been banned, full nudity, profanity and all. Those were the good ol' days. At work, they play an old skool soul station that is okay sometimes, but they play like the same 10 songs OVER AND OVER. Aw, man...I discovered Nikka Costa through MTV2...I remember seeing Gorillaz videos for the first time there...they even played crazy shit like old Bauhaus and Sex Pistols videos...in the middle of the day!!! What a shame, oh well.
I'm not sure what station it is they play at work, but I need to get speakers for my PC so I can get my own little music vibe going that won't drive me to insanity.

Anything for you, Nasty!! Okay. I've been here all my life and the older I get, the more radio sucks. I listen to talk radio in the mornings(Mancow, believe it or not)alternative rock on 101.1 Q-101 in the afternoons and news or the CDs I burn in the evenings. Tom Joyner is still cool in the mornings sometimes, you can catch him at 102.7 from like 5:30-10 a.m. There is a lady that comes on after him, Troi Tyler who is pretty good as well and she seems to sometimes do her own thing, which is cool. Like I said, I am really digging this new station cuz it has music that isn't played all the time. The best place is you wanna hear old school R&B is 102.7 on a Friday night at 7 p.m.

I'm happy for you, Stymie! "Something's On Your Mind" is my favorite D-Train track, and "Every Generation" is so phenomenal it deserves a thread of its own! I do not have a Ronnie Laws greatest hits CD right now because none of the ones that have been issued to date contain this song.
Enjoy it while it lasts! I used to live in the Chicagoland area, and I can remember when V-103 was an absolutely incredible station. I am sorry to hear about its decline.

V103 is STILL on the air, and it's only popular now because of Tom Joyner, truth be told. Yaaay Tom Joyner! They did WHAT??!....

So, why don't you start a Ronnie Laws thread? Enjoy it while it lasts! I used to live in the Chicagoland area, and I can remember when V-103 was an absolutely incredible station. I am sorry to hear about its decline.
