Where they playing? I might check them out. Mean Fiddler at Charring Cross on the 1st Tuesday of December (think it's the 6th?). I've got friends in London that I could stay with but I can't afford a trip away in December, I'll be very skint. I started a thread long ago about this cool band. And, yes I did see them live. At the Siren Music Festival in Coney Island, N.Y back in July. They had an awesome sound. It reminded me of some of the funky post-punk bands, like The Pop Group, Liquid Liquid, and A Certain Ratio. Live they're awesome, on record, they don't quite cut it. It sounded like some cheezy gay house music to me. But nevertheless, they're a band definitely worth check out. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE. | |

Aw, you bugger! Have you heard that 'Me & Guiliani Down By The Schoolyard' 12"? It blew my head off. Now, to add insult to injury, I've found out that they're being supported in London by M83, a French band who've just been given the 'Album Of The Month' award in quite a few British mags. Watch out, JD, I just might have to come down 4 this one. I've been promising my mate in London that I'd visit her 4 ages. I just don't think she was expecting me to visit her for a Tuesday night! Still, fond memories of Charing Cross. Mozarello & pesto ciabattas at 1AM in the morning, my friend's boyfriend working in the 'Harmony Centre' next door to the Astoria and getting me a 50% discount! Meeting my boss outside the Astoria one morning to find it cordoned off by police crime scene tape. As I'm waiting for my boss, a Sony press office rang me up asking me if I wanted to interview So Solid Crew. I declined and heard later that day on the radio that there'd been a couple of shootings at the So Solid gig at the Astoria the night before! Yes, I have heard the Me & Giuliani CD. And I've mentioned before that they sounded better live to me. On record, they're not as good. It just sounds like some cheezy, gay, throbbing, bass-heavy, house music. They could've done better on record. Maybe the future LP's will show their Pop Group and A Certain Ratio spirit.
