Funny,just the other day,I was listening to the 1975 Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes album 'Wake Up Everybody',which features "Don't Leave Me This Way".This CD was recently remastered,and the bonus track is a Tom Moulton remix of that song.As a vocalist,Teddy was da man,and not surprisingly,he kicks ass on this song.But I also love the 1977 version by Thelma Houston,which became a monstrous disco hit.
This wasn't the first time that somebody took an obscure song from the Gamble and Huff stable and transformed it into a huge disco hit.In 1978,disco singer Jackie Moore took the O'Jays song "This Time Baby" ( a non-single from their 'So Full Of Love' album) and remade it into a dancefloor smash.In this case,though,I prefer the original.
