It's the thought that counts, right?

Two years after Michael Jackson corralled some of the best in the music biz to sing on a 9/11 charity anthem, the track "What More Can I Give" is finally being released.

Billed as this decade's answer to "We Are the World," the song features A-listers such as Mariah Carey, Beyonce Knowles, Justin Timberlake and Celine Dion.

The star-studded video gets its official premiere on Monday night in Las Vegas at the Radio Music Awards hosted by Ryan Seacrest and Dog Eat Dog's Brooke Burns and broadcast live on NBC.

Jackson will be on hand Monday to introduce the "What More Can I Give" video and special behind-the-scenes footage. However, NBC denied reports that he would receive a humanitarian award, as touted on the singer's fan club site. "He's a special presenter," said a spokesperson.

Not likely to be included in the making-of footage is the clash between Jacko and his label, Sony, which kept the charity single tied up.

Last year, Jackson claimed Sony and then-chairman Tommy Mottola blocked the release of the song as part of its alleged "conspiracy" against him.

The plot thickened when the Los Angeles Times reported that Jackson's never-released September 11 single was halted by his own advisers after they found out the song's producer had ties to the gay pornography industry.

But as Jacko's disputed contract with Sony comes to an end, the Gloved One has inked a deal to broadcast the tune via Clear Channel radio stations with proceeds going to charity.

The erstwhile King of Pop will also deliver one final CD to the label on November 17 titled Number One, as contractually obligated. A compilation of greatest hits with a couple of new tracks thrown in, the album will reportedly be accompanied by a CBS prime-time special as Sony looks to squeeze every last dollar out of its departing star.

But if Jackson's trying to steer clear of controversy--i.e., the lawsuits, disturbing documentaries and baby dangling--he's chosen a strange bedfellow to collaborate on the album's original track.

Jacko's paired up with kiddie-porn suspect R. Kelly to pen and produce the single "One More Chance."

Then again, Kelly could be Jackson's one chance to get back on the charts and leave Sony clamoring for more. The last time the duo worked together was on 1995's "You Are Not Alone," from HIStory--that single went platinum.

I did not know this... confused You cannot escape the use of ClearChannel for radio broadcasts... which, of course, proves that Tommy Motolla is still very, very devilish. evillol

Well, not exactly, "Cry" was released as a single in Europe and flopped bigtime (i still don't know why, agreed it was a big choir save the world like thing nobody wants from MJ anymore, but it was pretty good, better than OMC, or WMCIG, what says a lot about the potential of those two 'new' songs).
But i'm glad he finally got it released, hopefully it will get some positive reactions so he can shop for a new deal and start working on his new album full of self-written, self-produces, happy tracks, without the big choirs and all the shmaltz (well, one can only hope).

Actually, the fact that he is releasing this song independently, and with the full backing of Clear Channel, is a very good sign.

I have the feeling that MJ's will finally get back to making new music by the end of this year.

From what I've heard, the new album is already done. When he will will release it, and with what label is anybody's guess. Hopefully, we'll hear more about it after #1's is released.
Leaving Epic will truly be the end of an era. 28 years and more than 150 million records sold...But I guess its time for him to move on.

Thats what i said earlier in the OMC thread, but it is still very nuts

Hopefully he will let us now, what 'the best is yet to come' really means.

It doesn't sound like they are actually releasing the single, just the video. And didn't the play that video at those German Bambi awards when he won some award. We are so behind the times.
