finally listened 2 "Hotter Than July" - Stevie Wonder 1980

I had this album for YEARS. Ever since my mom bought it and bought it again in 1994.

I only used 2 listen 2 Rocket Love & Happy Birthday, but now that i have been converting my LP's 2 CD in perfect qualty, i have listened 2 "Hotter Than July" 4 the first time.

I LOVE it.

I Aint Gonna Stand 4 It - Lovin his voice and serious quirkyness of this tune.

Cash In Your Face - I NEVER understood what that song meant until now. I would read the lyrics when i was little and never understood them. It is a very funky tune with a striking racial message that holds true 2 this day.

Master Blaster (Jammin) - Now u KNOW this is the CUT!

now, its time 4 "Innervisons" an album which i only got around to "Livin 4 The City" and stopped at this summer...

Thanks for this. I've been contemplating Stevie's 80's work for a while now, having owned all of his 70's output and loving every bit of it.

Is this his last truly great album???

Stevie's country tune. Eric Clapton went and screwed it up.

You've never listened to Innervisions in its entirety? Da horror.

The funny thing about this album is,the first single "Master Blaster (Jammin)" is the weakest song, imo boxed

If I were in charge of picking the singles,I would have chosen these songs in this order...

***"As If You Read My Mind"---killer uptempo jam for the first single

***"Rocket Love"

***"I Ain't Gonna Stand For It"

A possible fouth single could have been "All I Do",but I think the three strong songs I listed would have been enough.

nah, i wouldve done

"All I Do"
"Rocket Love"
"Master Blaster"
"Happy Birthday"

i didnt think As If U Read My Mind had any single substance like these ones as much

Master Blaster is tight, i dont understand y u thought it was boring.

And yes yes yall, I finally listened 2 "Innervisions" Not mindblowing, but a very nice piece of work. "Dont U Worry Bout A Thing" "Jesus Children Of America" & "Hes Mistra Know It All" are tight!

Probably its not important to alot of you but my girl Angela Winbush sang back-up in that CD. It was the time when she was a member in Stevie's back-up group "Wonderland"!

Yo pp4, check out somemore Stevie other than Hotter ThaJuly. I remember I was around 8 or 10 when I started sneaking my sister's Stevie albums and one by one I understood his musical progression. Whenever I would start at like his 1980s period, I would feel as if I was missing a link from his 70s period, so I had to do the research and backtrack. TRUST ME, listen to his stuff from the 70s first (if you haven't by now). wink

I don't know. If you haven't got it already, start from the top with Music of My Mind. The ride will be a whole lot better. You can't really lose in any order though.

oh of course. Cant wait 2 hear "Fufillingness" & "Talking Book" on the next episode! "Innervisions" is cool, but doesnt hav a lasting effect like Songs In The Key, and Hotter Than July does so far.
