Pop fan or not.. "Coverage" is a brilliant album!

Special Edition with bonus dvd.

Covering classics like Blondie's "One Way Or Another", Elton John's "Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters", and John Hiatt's "Have A Little Faith In Me"; Mandy Moore continues to seperate herself from other 'teen pop queens'. Choosing to pay homage to Singers/Songwriters of the 70's Mandy has released a brilliant new cd entitled "Coverage". The songs though some slightly updated in sound; are almost entirely keep true to the original arrangements. There's nothing contrived or calculated about this project. Just good music for anyone of any age. One review called this "the best cover album since David Bowie's "Pin Up".

The beauty is its simplicity.
Forget everything you've heard from her in the past..this album may surprise you. I think this is a beautiful album and would highly recommend it to anyone. A couple tracks that stand out are Joan Armatrading's "Drop the Pilot", Todd Rundgren's "Can We Still Be Friends", and The Waterboys' "The Whole of the Moon". Also the $7.99 price tag at Target didn't hurt either. I also picked up the special edition with dvd. And I'm very glad I did.

Artists covered on this album are: Spacehogs, Waterboys, Todd Rundgren, Carole King, Elton John, Joan Armatrading,Cat Stevens, Blondie, Joe Jackson, Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell, and John Hiatt

Track Listing:

1. Senses Working Overtime
2. The Whole of the Moon
3. Can We still be Friends
4. I Feel the Earth Move
5. Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters
6. Drop the Pilot
7. Moonshadow
8. One Way Or Another
9. Breaking us in Two
10. Anticipation
11. Help Me
12. Have A Little Faith In Me

thumbs up! Enjoy!

WELL ALRIGHT, MANDY MOORE! I just heard her cover of Joan Armatrading's Drop The Pilot and it's decently done. She does a good job at imitating it. Of course Joan's version will always be my favorite, but I'm sooo glad an artist from my generation is recognizing Joan (it seems like me and 26 other people are the only ones who admire her in the U.S.). This is so leftfield for Mandy. I'm impressed. I NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS expected HER to cover (out of all people) my girl JOAN. I LOVE JOAN TO DEATH. I'm glad artists of my generation are paying homage. I don't know if she personally selected that song (or some savvy industry person) but whoever picked "Drop The Pilot" has EXCELLENT TASTE IN MUSIC.

On the dvd she spoke about how she actually is a huge Joan Armatrading fan. I think it was a collaborative effort as far as song selections. She seemed honest; and appeared to have a sincere respect and admiration for these songs and their authors. She was saying how she wanted to do this album to expose these songs to her fans and peers. To let them know there was more out there than just disposable pop songs. Good for her! mr.green

How is the Joe Jackson cover? THe original (along with the whole "Night & Day album) has always been one of my faves!

She's still pretty young, give her a break. I read about this album a while back and have been real curious to hear it. The track listing is very cool for someone like her.

At least she's searching for good music instead of trying to dream up another way to prance around like a whore.

"Breaking Us In Two"

Excellent job on it. The vocals are beautifully done. And kept to it's original arrangement. She also mentioned how she's "investigating more of his music." She likes the fact that he's experimntal though classically trained. The special edition with dvd has her giving a somewhat in depth track by track discussion. The recording process f the album, and why she chose to sing those particular songs. When she first discovered them, etc...I enjoyed the fact that she wasn't pretentious, and wasn't afraid to admit she didn't know who some of these people were.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised Aaron. No offense, but that song seems like it was written for her. Definitely one of my favourites of the cd. nod

I love Mandy Moore. She has unfortunately been lumped with the talentless pop tarts that happen to be her peers, but she has talent and good taste and a genuine love for REAL music.

And she's unbelievably beautiful without being trashy.

there are plenty of nice girls out there, but that doesn't mean that they should be making records...

personally, i find mandy moore's voice to be dreadful and completely lacking in emotion...

and i'm not saying that randy savage is my style (no way in hell)... what i'm saying is that mandy moore sucks so much asshole that i would rather listen to randy savage (who also sucks asshole - just not as much) than listen to her...
