Stevie Wonder- My Eyes Don't Cry

What a great song! Known as the "Detroit Hustle" in my beloved hometown, this song brings the FUNK. Soulful lyric delivery, syrupy synth bass and wicked hooks make this a classic in my mind- my favorite Stevie Wonder song for sure!

Moonbeam

I was a lonely no one
Living in a vacuum as life's debris
Victimized as one whose self deprivation
Had made for my outer insecurity

I was a he ain't nothin'
Living in the slums of love's misery
Starving from the lack of sweet affection
'Til you came to rescue me

My eyes don't cry no more
My heart don't ache no more
Since you walked through my door
I don't have to no longer be blue

My eyes don't cry no more
My heart don't ache no more
Now taht love's touched my soul
All my lonely nights alone are through

I was a Mr Lonely
Seeing only darkness in the bright of day
Blind even though my eyes were wide opened
But then your love sunshined my way

My eyes don't cry no more
My heart don't ache no more
Since you walked through my door
I don't have to no longer be blue

My eyes don't cry no more
My heart don't ache no more
Now taht love's touched my soul
All my lonely nights alone are through

I don't cry, baby baby I don't cry
I don't cry, baby baby I don't cry
I don't cry, baby baby I don't cry
(repeat)

My life was without reason
Sinking in a hell that had no space or time
Falling to the burning pit of pain and sorrow
Until you saved this life of mine

My eyes don't cry no more
My heart don't ache no more
Since you walked through my door
I don't have to no longer be blue

My eyes don't cry no more
My heart don't ache no more
Now taht love's touched my soul
All my lonely nights alone are through

I don't cry, baby baby I don't cry
I don't cry, baby baby I don't cry
I don't cry, baby baby I don't cry
I don't cry, baby baby I don't cry

My eyes don't cry no more
My heart don't ache no more
My nights are not lonely no more
My tears don't flow no more
My eyes don't cry, my eyes don't cry,
My eyes don't cry no more

I've got all of his albums from Music of My Mind through Hotter Than July (I've also got that soundtrack-- Woman in Red?). I need to go and get Characters. I don't know what's keeping me. brick

'Characters' is a very good album.I'll have to take it out and give it a listen. The duet with MJ "Get It" is excellent, rivaling the lame duet on MJ's 'Bad' album.

I ALWAYS thought this song seemed like an artifact. It didn't seem to sound like 1987 to me. Thanks for that info!

How much do you like "My Eyes Don't Cry?" Is the rest of the album funky? I don't own it yet.

"My Eyes Don't Cry" is a cool song,as far as his 80s work goes. The rest of the album has some great moments as well. The first single "Skeletons" is extremely funky,as is the aforementioned duet with MJ.The opening track "You Will Know" is gorgeous.

Did you ever get the CDs 'Innervisions'(1973),'Fulfillingness' First Finale'(1974) and 'Songs In The Key Of Life'(1976)?

I saw Stevie on Boston Common on this tour. He was awesome, and kept saying he could see the fans that were looking down on the show for free. How did he know that? He had a great band and really funked up "Skeletons" with Johnny Kemp's "Just Got Paid"

New jack swing was in full effect that year!

I started one about "Talking Book" awhile back. I love that and "Innervisions" a lot, but I haven't listened to "Songs in the Key of Life" yet. I'll get to it. wink What I've heard is really, really great! However, none of them touch "My Eyes Don't Cry" for me. That song just cuts through me like none of his other songs.

Shit! I've only heard the version that contains this verse ONCE, and that had to be at least a decade ago... Thanks moonbeam for reminding me I still need to find that version... dammit.

'Songs In The Key Of Life' is a tour-de-force,you will love it.It's really difficult to decide which album is better---'Innervisions' or 'SITKOL'.I look forward to seeing your analysis of these albums.
